Heather Stover took home the prize in the third annual Stone Memorial High School Battle of the Bands Nov. 7.
Stover, who was performing for the first time as a solo act, thrilled audiences with "Angels on the Moon" by Thriving Ivory, "Outside" by Staind and "Face Down" by Red Jump Suit Apparatus.
Those are her three favorite bands, she said. As the winner, she received a $100 prize.
Stover was selected the winner out of the eight bands that performed, with music ranging from traditional rock, heavy metal and country.
The band Brist, with members Jesse and Austin Brist, James Pugh and Parker Morris, and the band Old Highway 28, with members Casey Green, Josh Green, Kelsey Reph and Andrew Houston, were the two other finalists.
Brist performed tributes to Ozzy Osbourne, playing "Crazy Train" and "You Lookin' At Me."
Old Highway 28 took an '80s theme with Guns N Roses "Sweet Child of Mine," and Def Leppard's "Photograph."
The other contestants were:
Your Mom, playing a collection of classic, alternative and hard rock, included band members Matt Graham, Brandi Stedam, Justin Parkhurst, Justin Rhymes and Amy Green.
Tainted Word, with members Josh Kemmer and Michael Lewis, performed their own musical compositions with their unique metal sound.
Clay Leary, performing as No Regrets, performed drum improvisational pieces.
A Call to Arms, with Trevor Harp, Freddy Avalos, Danny Vega and Cody Harris, also performed their own metal songs.
Soloist Rafael "Shotgun Fender" Soriano performed a song he wrote, "The Pit Bull," a country piece with acoustic sound.
The annual competition is produced by the SMHS Panther Tales Players, the school's theater club. It is open to all genres of music, but at least one band member must be a high school student in Cumberland County and no band member can be older than 20. Lyrics and costumes are school appropriate and must be approved prior to the performance.
