An elderly Crossville woman was listed Wednesday in critical condition in the intensive care unit of an area trauma center where she was flown following a car and tractor-trailer accident Tuesday.
Irene Dorthy Malgeri, 84, of Beverly Hills Circle, was flown to Erlanger Medical Center from Cumberland Medical Center for treatment of internal injuries and remains in the critical care unit.
Driver of the truck, Derrick G. Ogletree, 38, of Georgia, was not injured in the accident.
The crash occurred around 11 a.m. on Hwy. 70 E in front of the Dorton United Methodist Church, according to Trooper Mike Williams.
Ogletree was traveling west hauling a ship cargo container when Malgeri, driving a late model Honda Fit, attempted to make a left turn into the church parking lot, traveling into the path of the truck.
The collision knocked Malgeri's vehicle 50 feet off the road, down a ten-foot embankment and through a fence where it came to rest upright in a pasture.
Hwy. 70 was closed for about an hour as the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the department's Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) investigated the crash.
No citations were issued and neither alcohol or drugs were suspected in the crash, although routine tests were administered.
