Quilters give gift of love to children
Members of the Pieced With His Love quilting group at Lantana Rd. Baptist Church made their annual donation of quilts and stuffed animals to the Crossville Police Department recently. Accepting the donation was Crossville Police Lt. Fred Sherrill.
The quilting group meets at least twice a month to piece together quilts for children who may find themselves victims of traffic accidents, house fires or in other situations where they become frightened by the circumstances surrounding them.
Each police officer is supplied quilts and stuffed animals and Sherrill said the gifts made of love have proven to be quite popular with the children receiving them.
"Last year we had a house fire in the city and there were three children in the family who had lost everything. We gave them each a blanket and stuffed animal," said Sherrill. "I saw the family three weeks later and those little kids were still holding onto their blankets."
This is the third year that the quilters have made donations. Publicity generated from last year's donation resulted in two non-club members making and donating a quilt to the Lantana quilters to be donated this year.
Not pictured but participating in this year's project are Joan Beach, Lavern Carlisle and Robin Neal.
