Robbery suspect flees from trooper

CROSSVILLE — A former Cumberland County man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of the Peavine Rd. Taco Bell in June was apprehended after he fled on foot from a trooper during a traffic stop.

Ernest Otto Ketelhut, 22, 163 Brookside Manor, Goshen, is charged with armed robbery and evading arrest and was served an attachment for failure to appear in Cumberland County General Sessions Court to answer a violation of an order of protection and for an order of protection hearing on June 19.

He was ordered held without bond pending an appearance before Judge Larry Warner in Sessions Court.

On June 9, a shift manager had a gun placed against the back of her head as she walked to her vehicle to take the previous night's receipts to the bank. The bandit demanded all the money and escaped on foot.

Crossville Police later arrested a store employee, Andrea Augusti, 25, of 112 Avon Rd., and her boyfriend, Robert Jay Gilleand, 24, of the same address, charging both with aggravated armed robbery.

In an arrest affidavit, Crossville Police Det. Bill Padgett wrote that he believes Ketelhut was the getaway driver and later assisted in burning the store's bank bag.

On Sunday evening Trooper David Jones was running radar on Peavine Rd. when he clocked a vehicle traveling 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. He asked the driver for driver's license, registration and proof of insurance and then returned to his patrol car, at which point a man he identified as Ketelhut bolted from his car and ran into a nearby wooded area.

Cpl. Tim Tutor arrived in the area to assist in the search and took Ketelhut into custody on Stone Loop.

Ketelhut is to appear in Sessions Court this week.
