Crossville Police at the request of officials at the local Walmart store are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of computers and other items from the store's electronics section, according to reports.
On Aug. 18, three persons entered the store and stole 17 desktop computers valued at over $12,000. The computers were eMachines and Hewlett Packard brands, according to Ptl. Chad Withrow's report. A store surveillance tape shows three men leaving in a dark-colored four door car.
Store officials told police that the computers were wrapped in a security wire with audible alarm system that activates if someone tampers with the alarm or attempts to cut the alarm. A special key is used to disable the alarms and it appears that the thieves had access to a key.
Six days later Crossville Police were again contacted by Walmart officials who reported 10 LCD monitors with total value of over $1,600 were missing. The computer monitors are Acer and HP brands.
Like the computers, the monitors have alarm systems that apparently had been removed. None of the alarm systems have been recovered, according to Ptl. Mitchell Phipps' report.
