Red Cross is open on Thanksgiving

This year U.S. farmers raised 271 million turkeys. That’s a lot of turkeys! Anyone who enjoys one of these birds on Thanksgiving is grateful they are available.

But did you know only 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood? Of those, only about 8 percent actually give blood. Just think what would happen if there wasn’t enough blood for patients in need?

Don’t be a turkey! This Thanksgiving, give thanks by giving blood. Each blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives.

The Crossville Donor Center located at 11 E. First Street is open Thanksgiving week:

• Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Closed Thanksgiving Day.

• Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To schedule an appointment, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543).

All presenting donors will receive a limited edition Paula Deen inspired apron, special recipes and a holiday message of thanks from Paula (while supplies last).

If you are at least 17 years of age (or 16 with parental consent), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good general health, you may be eligible to donate blood. There is no upper age limit for blood donation. For more information or to find a blood drive near you, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543).
