U.S. Marine with local ties killed in Iraq
A U.S. Marine with Cumberland County ties was killed Friday, April 3, while on duty in Iraq.
Lance Cpl. Stephan F. Dearmon, who served as a combat photographer in the U.S. Marine Corps, died in Iraq. He attended Cumberland County High School and was on the wrestling team at CCHS.
"He was a good kid. He was always a prankster and a joker and liked to have fun, but he would do what he needed to do the first time he was told. He wouldn't have to be told again," CCHS math teacher and wrestling coach Ron Cook said.
Cook said Dearmon attended CCHS his freshman through junior years at CCHS and then moved to Cookeville for his senior year.
Memorial pages honoring Dearmon have been posted on both social networking sites MySpace and Facebook.

Crash on Chestnut Hill Rd. claims life of county man

Library in danger of losing state funds
The Art Circle Public Library could lose support from the state if its budget isn't restored to funding levels of 2009-'10 by the county. That means the county needs to add approximately $42,000 to the library's 2010-'11 budget.

BOE approves fees for daycare program
The Cumberland County Board of Education approved a fee schedule for care at the new Tennessee Early Intervention System daycare located on the grounds of the Central Office.

No decision on county budget
