Cumberland County schools paraprofessionals are nominated annually in April for rehire. The following is a list of the employees who were recommended for rehire for the 2009-'10 school year. No action was needed on the matter, noted Director of Schools Aarona VanWinkle.
In a memo to the board, VanWinkle stated, "It is important to recognize at this time that even though these personnel are assigned to essential positions for a better education program in Cumberland County, funding must be available from local, state and federal sources to continue to offer our current educational program."
The Central Office and county-wide personnel were the first recommendations listed in the memo.
In Central Office administration, listed are Cindy Randol, business manager; Carla Zimmerman, administrative assistant; Dot Myhr, administrative secretary; and Kay Stanley, siesta clerk and pre-K bookkeeper.
For health services are Sharon Barrett, RN-director of medical services, and the following school nurses: Jimmie Mae Brass, Cumberland County High School; Anita Davis, Martin Elementary; Bertha England, Stone Elementary; Dawnda Frisa, Homestead Elementary; Connie Harvel, Stone Memorial High School; Cheryl Long, North Cumberland Elementary; Darlene Murakami, Pine View Elementary; Kim Oliver, South Cumberland Elementary; Rhonda Sisco, Pleasant Hill; Mary Jane Wiley, Crab Orchard; Betty Barker and Janice Mumford, both part-time registered nurses.
Under regular instruction are Eric Testorff, technology coordinator; Samantha Scarbrough, administrative secretary/GASB clerk; and the following technology technicians, Elbert Farley, Kimberly Hassler, Tommy Melton and Jackie Thompson.
Under education for handicapped are Jule Cole, administrative assistant; Renee Holbrook, administrative clerk; Sandra Campbell, Brooke England, Deborah Green as speech assistants; and Conda Wagner, special education assistant.
Tim Claflin is listed as the emergency management coordinator, and Gerry Rice is the student services secretary. Pat Elmore is listed as Career and Technical Education (CTE) secretary and bookkeeper, and Patricia Hamel is listed as the Central Office maintenance custodian. Arlene McCulley is listed as the federal programs secretary and bookkeeper.
Kathy Hamby is listed as supervisor for the school nutrition program as well as Barbara Wyatt, bookkeeper; Alice Treadway, secretary; and Sue True, school courier.
For Safe Schools, Scott Hull is listed as case manager, pending funding. Also pending funding is Lisa Phillips as family resource center and homeless education coordinator.
For transportation, Lane McAnnally is listed as transportation supervisor, with Rebecca Reed as the secretary and bookkeeper; Christopher Howard, James Howard and Rolland Howard as mechanics; and Finn Phillips as the fuel truck operator and shop attendant.
Listed under maintenance of plant are Steve Smith, maintenance supervisor; Mary Kington, secretary and bookkeeper; and the following for general maintenance: Jason Deibler, Donald Hale, Robert Wayne Hale, Gary King, Freddy Mathias, Lynn Phipps, Murel Sherrill, Bill Templeton and Kelvin Wilson.
