A Crossville man was jailed this week on charges he broke into a convenience store, according to police reports. The burglary was recorded by the store's surveillance camera, according to police reports.
Christopher Ray Hale, 19, 60 Savanah Lane, is charged with burglary and drinking below the legal age in connection with the June 1 incident.
City police were dispatched to L&J; Market on Hwy. 70 E Monday around 11:17 p.m. in response to an activated burglary alarm, according to Ptl. Chad Withrow's report. When Withrow arrived on the scene he found a drive-thru window broken with blood found on the broken glass. As police waited for the owner to respond to the scene, Ptl. Jason Wilson spotted a man exit a nearby wooded area and then flee toward the old motel behind the convenience store.
Police later found the suspect on the roof of the old motel and had to call the city fire department for assistance in getting the suspect off the roof. Reportedly the suspect had cuts and scratches on his body.
Police then were able to review a video tape that shows a man walking up to the drive-thru window with a board in his hand, smash the window and later enter the store and head to the cigarette counter. The action set off a burglary alarm and the man fled when the alarm activated.
No one else was injured the incident.
