CROSSVILLE —
A man scheduled to go on trial Oct. 30 postponed going before a jury and one week later entered guilty pleas to burglary and theft charges.
Kevin Paul Proffitt, 36, who previously listed addresses on Hidden Valley Rd. and Earl Jones Rd., pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, one count of theft of more than $10,000 and possession of stolen goods.
In exchange for his plea, Proffitt's sentence was suspended with the requirement of one year in in-patient rehab, followed by one year under house arrest and restrictions of community corrections, to be followed by 12 years on supervised probation.
Proffitt was taken into custody in Bledsoe County on April 23 of this year after he was identified as a suspect in a Crossville jewelry store burglary.
Proffitt is ordered to pay $21,095 restitution to the victim in the case. If conditions of probation are not met, then he will be required to serve his eight-year prison sentence.

Tip leads to stolen property
Acting on an anonymous telephone tip, Cumberland County sheriff’s investigators have recovered thousands in stolen property and are now being joined by state investigators who are trying to determine if an interstate theft ring is involved. No arrests have been made as the probe continues.

Leadership class visits General Assembly
Leadership Cumberland’s April 2 session, state government, was held in Nashville. Leadership Cumberland is a program of the Community Development Division and is administrated by the Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce.

Council tackles decorum in special meeting

TDOT OKs BSF visitor center bid
After nearly a decade of planning, discussions, several changes of members on the county commission and rejected bids, the Gateway to the Big South Fork Visitor’s Center project will move forward after the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) sent a letter to Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey Jr. informing him the project was approved.
