CROSSVILLE —
Once again, the sport of trap shooting shows that age makes little difference in posting winning scores.
Gil Lokey, 76, of Crossville matched skills with 16-year old Heritage High School (Maryville) scholastic clay target program shooter Brandon Hudgens at the sixth amateur trapshooting association (ATA) shoot of the year at the Fairfield Glade Sportsman Club June 28.
Lokey, a class B shooter, fired a near perfect 99X100, missing only the 19th target, to win the singles championship over class B winner Tom Royce of Dayton who posted a 96 and class C winner Hudgens who fired a 92.
Lokey is no stranger when it comes to firing high scores in any event. He fired the club’s most recent 100X100 in ATA singles competition in November of 2010. Lokey competes with a Perazzi MX2000
In the handicap event, Hudgens showed his class C singles victory was no fluke when he fired a winning 94X100 from 18-yards back to defeat another super-senior, Elden Ice of Fairfield Glade who fired a 92. Hudgens fires an SKB.
In the doubles competition, Royce would prevail over Hudgens in a sudden-death shoot-off after each posted 87X100.
Our club’s next ATA shoot will be Friday, Aug. 31.
