CROSSVILLE —
Another honor was bestowed on former CCHS pitcher/oufielder John Bilbrey who was named to the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-State team as a two-way player — lefthanded pitcher/outfielder.
"Coaching John was a privilege. In my opinion he was definitely one of the best, if not the best, player to ever come through Cumberland County High School. Playing the game came very natural for him and it was obvious that the game moved at a slower speed for him compared to the majority of other high school players. I wish him the best at Tennessee Tech and look forward to watching him play there. He has a wonderful opportunity to represent Cumberland County High School baseball and the city of Crossville while there," said Coach Dave Prichard.
For the season, he batted .495 with 25 singles, 12 doubles, two triples, nine homers, 40 RBI, 24 runs scored, .573 OBP and .938 slugging, and was 8-2 with one save, 1.74 ERA, 139 strikeouts, 25 walks, two hitbatsmen in 72.1 innings pitched. His fielding percentage was .976 (19 assists, 64 putouts, two errors).
For his career, he batted .420 with 102 singles, 41 2B, 4 3B, 21 HRs, 115 RBIs, 43 stolen bases and .705 slugging, a .946 fielding percentage (179 putouts, 64 assists, 14 errors) in 257 chances.
He was 24-12 with eight saves, .272 ERA, 92 earned runs, 360 strikeouts and 141 walks in 236 innings.
The Jet four-year letterman and four-time All-District 6AAA selection holds single season records for RBIs (40), homers (9), wins (8), strikeouts (139) and innings pitched (72.1) and is second in batting average (.495). He was 2012 District 6AAA Player of the Year, after helping his team finish with a 16-18 and 4-4 mark this season and 61 wins in four seasons.
His career records were RBIs (115), homers (21), wins (24), strikeouts (360) and innings pitched (236) and second in batting average (.420).
Bilbrey signed with Tennessee Tech in November 2011 to continue his baseball career in 2012-'13.
"It is the school I wanted to attend. The have a good baseball program. I really liked their coach," said Bilbrey. "It is a good school for my career choice (law enforcement)."
He is the fourth Jet to sign with a major college, joining Dalton Bell (Belmont), Scott Calahan (South Alabama) and Aaron Elmore (Tennessee Tech).
