The Stone Memorial basketball teams will capitalize on their success in after Christmas tournaments, when they open District 4AA play Friday night as they host Loudon.
Coach John Walker's Lady Panthers (6-9) won the Jon Loden Christmas Tournament at Midway High School, beating Happy Valley 68-66 in the championship game last Saturday and Monterey 55-25 in the tournament semi-finals last Friday.
Coach Neil Capps Panthers (8-7) finished the Renasant Bank Boys Christmas Tournament 2-2, after beating Bradley Central 60-55 last Friday and losing 58-45 to Knox Webb last Saturday.
Lady Panthers 68, Happy Valley 66: The Lady Panthers rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit (33-23) to take the victory. After each team scored 15 points in the third quarter, SMHS outscored the Lady Warriors 30-18 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Panthers were Tiffany Cokkinias (two points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals), Jordan Thompson (eight points, two rebounds), Jacki Livesay (22 points, two rebounds, one steal), Kirsten Potter (nine markers, two rebounds, one assist, one steal), Faith Van Ruden (eight points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals), Abby Griffin (one rebound, two assists, one steal), Bailey Rutledge (three rebounds), Courtney White (eight points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals), Sidney Early (seven rebounds, three rebounds), and Mikayla Kington (four points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals).
Lady Panthers 55, Monterey 25: The Lady Panthers led 19-9 after one quarter, and never looked back. A 14-0 second-quarter gave SMHS a 33-9 lead at the break. SMHS outscored Monterey 22-16 in the second half for the win and a berth in the tournament championship.
Leading the way for the Lady Panthers were Tiffany Cokkinias (six points, four rebounds, three assists, four steals), Jordan Thompson (three points, two rebounds, three assists), Emily Bryant, Jacki Livesay (two points), Kirsten Potter (two points, one rebound, two steals), Kerigan Smith (three points, two steals), Faith Van Ruden (14 points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal), Abby Griffin (six points, one rebound, five steals), Bailey Rutledge (two rebounds, one assist), Courtney White (nine points, four rebounds, two steals), Sidney Early (three points, one rebound), Mikayla Kington (seven rebounds, two steals), Riley Hunt (seven points, two rebounds) and Lacey Melton (one rebound, one assist).
SMHS 60, Bradley Central 55: The Bears jumped out to a 23-20 first half lead, but the Panthers outscored the Bears 40-22 in the second half to take the victory.
Leading the Panthers were Gage Spence (two points), Brock Rowan (21 points), Tyler Yoder (eight points), Matt Troino (two points), Brandon Thomas (three points), Justin Simmons (18 points) and Luke Matthews (six points).
SMHS buried seven three-point baskets — Rowan (four), Simmons (one) and Matthews (two).
Knox Webb 58, SMHS 45: The Panthers took a 14-12 lead after one quarter, but the Spartan outscored the Panthers 18-7 in the second stanza for a 30-21 lead at the break.
SMHS outscored Webb 13-12 in the third quarter, but the Spartans finished the game with a 16-11 fourth quarter for the victory.
Leading scorers for SMHS were Gage Spence (four points), Brock Rowan (four points), Tyler Yoder (14 points), Justin Simmons (13 points) and Luke Matthews (nine points).
Schedule: After hosting Loudon Friday, SMHS will travel to Christian Academy of Knoxville Tuesday and host Alcoa Jan. 11 for the annual "Play for the Cure" game.

Ward’s hole-in-one is highlight of Exchange Club Golf Tournament
After being rained out in April, the Lake Tansi Exchange Club Golf Tournament was played June 15 at the Tansi Golf Course, but the highlight of the tournament was a hole-in-one by Kay Ward of Murfreesboro. She recorded an ace on the par 3, third hole to win a new car from Dave Kirk Automotive.

The Cumberland County High School Cheerleaders are “UCA Camp Champs”! The CCHS varsity and junior varsity squads enjoyed a week packed full of fun and excitement at UCA Cheer Camp at Tennessee Technological University June 4-7 with 25 other cheer squads.

More than 50 compete in Avalon Center 5K June 8
The Avalon Center held its first 5K run and 1 mile walk on Saturday, June 8, at Stone Memorial High School. It was a beautiful day and more 50 participants came out to enjoy the low humidity to get in their daily run and help out a worthy organization.

More than 100 boys and girls attended the ninth CRYSA camp at the Duer Complex last week, with campers from the nine groups receiving their Most Improved Player (MIP), Most Valuable Player (MVP) and other special awards at the conclusion of the morning session on June 7.

Mike Steinmann/Salvation Army Golf Tournament set July 27
The sixth Mike Steinmann/Salvation Army Golf Tournament is set Saturday, July 27 at the Lake Tansi Golf Course. The tournament will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $65 per person which includes a fish fry afterward along with some great prizes. There will be a hole-in-one contest on the par 3 third hole for a cash prize of $15,000, along with hole-in-one prizes on the other par 3 holes.

State women’s open field continues to grow
The field for the 15th Golf Capital of Tennessee Women's Open is half way to the century mark (100). The entry deadline is 5 p.m. July 3 for the July 18-20 tournament hosted by the city of Crossville at Fairfield Glade's Stonehenge Golf Club.
