CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County Jets and Lady Jets games at District 6AAA foe Coffee County went down to the wire Friday night, as CCHS split two contests.

The Jets defeated the Red Raiders 60-58, while the Lady Jets lost to the Lady Raiders 37-36.

CCHS 60, Coffee County 58: "The team played hard," said Coach Will Foster. "They did really well defensively."

The Jets led 11-7 late in the first quarter, but the Red Raiders used an 8-3 run to take a 15-14 lead with 21.4 seconds left in the stanza. Cade Smith's jumper in the waning moments of the quarter gave the Jets a 16-15 lead.

The Jets opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run for a 21-15 lead with 4:34 left in the half and maintained the lead at six points (28-22) with 1:04 left on the second of two free throws by Diego Poore.

Coffee County finished the half with a 5-0 run to slice the lead to 28-27.

The Jets rebuilt the advantage to 39-33 midway through the third quarter, but a trey by Lance Crismond triggered an 8-0 run to give the hosts a 41-39 advantage. Qualls had nine points for the Jets.

Two more free throws by Lucas Crismond gave the Red Raiders a 43-39 lead early in the final quarter, but a three-point play by Qualls started a 14-10 run to retake the lead for good at 57-49 with 1:15 remaining in the game.

The Red Raiders battled back to sllice the lead to 59-56 on a Lance Crismond trey, but Tayler Houston converted the first of two free throws to make the score 60-56. Addison Curtis converted a layup at the buzzer for the final margin of 60-58.

Qualls led the Jets with 20 points, five rebounds and one steal, follwed by Poore (nine points, one rebound, three assists and one steal), Brian Young (one rebound), J.J. Miller (six  points, two rebounds, one steal), Austin Brown (three points, one rebound), Houston (eight points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals), Smith (two points, one rebound), Logan Parsons (seven points, three rebounds, two steals) and Cameron O'Rourke (two points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal).

Coffee County 37, CCHS 36: Coach Radhika Miller's Lady Jets took an early 5-4 lead, but the Lady Raiders finished the first quarter with an 8-0 run for a 12-5 lead.

The Lady Raiders outscored CCHS 13-8 in the second quarter for a 25-13 late at the break.

CCHS was five of 16 from the field and two for eight from the charity stripe with nine turnovers, while Coffee County was 12 of 19 from the field and four of six from the charity stripe with nine turnovers.

The Lady Raiders extended the lead to 30-16 midway through the third quarter, but a jumper by Courtney Smith triggered a 6-2 run to slice the deficit to 32-23 by quarter's end.

Missy Jones' layup gave the hosts a  34-23 advantage, but a trey by McKenzie Iles started a 11-1 run to slice the deficit to 35-34 with 2:06 remaining in the game. A basket by Michaela Gregory gave Coffee County a 37-34 lead with 43.5 left in the game.

Kassidy Sommer's layup sliced the lead to 37-36, but the Lady Jets failed to convert four Lady Raider turnovers into go-ahead baskets in the final stages of the game; however, with 3.1 seconds left, Jones missed the front end of a one-plus-one. Gina Dick rebounded and threw to Iles, who nailed a trey, but time had expired, nullifying the shot.

Leading the way for the Lady Jets were Iles (10 points, three rebounds, two assists, five steals), Maddi Potter, Dick (seven points, seven rebounds, two assists), Alli Hyder (one assist), Sloane VanWinkle (three points, five rebounds, one assists), Victoria Lee (one steal), Skylar VanWinkle, Rebekah Teeple (eight points, six rebounds, one assist, six steals), Kelsie Eldridge, Sommer (eight points, one rebound) and Smith (four points, one rebound).

The Lady Jets were 15 of 38 from the field and six of 13 from the free throw with 13 turnovers, while Coffee County was 14 of 33 from the field and six of 14 from the charity stripe with 15 turnovers.

Cumberland County hosts White County tonight, travels to Warren County Friday and visits Stone Memorial Saturday.
