South Cumberland teams win varsity crowns

CROSSVILLE — The South Cumberland basketball teams won the county varsity basketball championships Saturday night at Stone Memorial High School.

The Rebels defeated the Bulldogs 43-40 for their their fourth straight county title, while the Lady Rebels beat North 56-18 for their third title in a row and fourth in six years.

South 43, Homestead 40: "It was a great game that could have gone either way. Coach Brad Sherrill is doing a good job at Homestead. I'm very proud of my kids," said Coach Randy Herring, whose team hit nine of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Leading scorers for South were Tristin Patridge (12 points), Silas Clark (nine points), Jacob Kerley (four points), Hayden Woody (eight points), Lee Hale (eight points) and Josh Dykes (two points).

Leading scorers for Homestead were Nathaniel Sexton (nine points), Tristan Norman (12 points), James Nichols (two points), Gage Cox (six points), Curtis Tollett (seven points) and Brett Newcome (four points).

South 56, North 18: No individual scoring was received, as well as the boys and girls All-Tournament teams.
