Panthers win two of three games over the weekend

CROSSVILLE — Last Thursday night, the SMHS Panthers baseball team secured their first two wins of the season against the Sequatchie County Indians and the Sale Creek Panthers, behind the pitching of Gabriel Caballero and Austin Robertson. A.J. Tarallo entered in relief in game one.

Clay Wilson took the loss on Friday night against the Warriors of White County with relievers Jason Moldenhauer and Tarallo also taking the mound.

Stone's first win ended with a final of 9-2 against the Indians on 10 hits.  The rival Panthers of Sale Creek went down 12-3 with SMHS bats roaring on 10 hits again.

This led to Friday night's must-win against the Warriors, who were also undefeated, to make it into Saturday's round at South Pittsburgh.

White County's Ethan Roberts pitched three innings without a Panther reaching base.

Wilson held the Warriors to one run until the bottom of the third when two two-run homers would put the Warriors ahead for good.  Nathan Greene took a inside pitch to the chest and would later score on Moldenhauer's triple.  Sawyer Casey led off with a double in the sixth inning and would cross the plate on a Greene single to end the scoring offense in the 10-2 loss.

Moldenhauer led the Panther offense for the tournament with four hits, followed by Greene, Tarallo, Caballero and Casey with three each.  Austin Helton and Luke Matthews punched two hits each with Chris Cox and Clay Wilson each recording a single.

District play began on Monday night as Stone traveled to Alcoa.  The Tornadoes travel to SMHS on Tuesday night to continue district action.
