Friends of NRA banquet kickoff meeting set for July 16

CROSSVILLE — The kick-off meeting in support of the eighth annual Friends of NRA banquet will be held July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Glade Sportsman Club on Shorty Barnes Road. The banquet is set for Sept. 13

Mike Webb, Tennessee field representative for the NRA and state coordinator for all the Friends of NRA banquets in Tennessee, will be there to pass out banquet tickets, describe the many drawings and auctions that take place, and tell how each of us who support the Cumberland County Clay Crushers shooting team can make this banquet the most successful we have ever held.

Funds from the Friends of NRA Foundation Grants are the single largest contributor to the scholastic clay target program. Last year, the Clay Crusher team received $5,277 from this foundation to help defray shooting expenses and thus reduce out-of-pocket costs from the student’s parents.

Friends of NRA has contributed more than $22,000 to our Cumberland County SCTP since our programs inception in 2005.

So, mark the date, July 16 at 6:30 p.m. on your calendar to find out how you can support the trap team.

CCHS soccer team closes season with banquet

Last Wednesday morning, Stone Memorial High School track team members Rachel Hutson and Makayla Kington signed their National Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics for the 2013-'14 school year.
Hutson will be going to Carson Newman College to compete for the Lady Eagles cross country and track team,s while fellow senior Makayla Kington will be going to Tennessee Tech to throw for Crossville native Tony Cox.

Harris wins Region 2A/AA singles tennis gold medal
Stone Memorial sophomore Ali Harris won the Region 2A/AA tennis singles championship Tuesday at Pigeon Forge High School to earn her a second-straight berth in next week's state meet in Murfreesboro at MTSU.
Harris defeated Chesnie Nichols of Carter High School in the first round of the tournament in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, according to SMHS coach Ray Hawn.

Hospice of Cumberland County real winner in 22nd annual tournament
The 22nd Hospice Benefit Golf Tournament was played May 8 at Lake Tansi Golf Course. The golfers gathered at the Lake Tansi pavilion for a delicious lunch from Big Boy’s Barbeque. The full field of 33 teams took to the course with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
