Lady Jet wrestler comes up heavy in lightweight division

CROSSVILLE — Lady Jet Marissa Vincent, escorted by Assistant Coach Kenneth Davis, traveled to Pigeon Forge last weekend to attend the Lady’s regional state qualifying tournament, while the Jets traveled to Maryville.

Vincent entered the lady’s tournament seated fourth.

“For a rookie, Marissa’s hard work and dedication to the team has contributed to the development of a strong and promising overall wrestling program at CCHS,” says Head Coach Wes McNeely.

In the first round, she faced a Tennessee High opponent, pinning her in the second period. The second round proved to be a strong and talented opponent from Pigeon Forge, losing in the second period and dropping to the consolation bracket.

Vincent regained her composure before the third round of wrestling and beat her Davey Crockett High opponent by points advancing her to the consolation finals.

In the consolations, Vincent faced a Tennessee High opponent, pinning her in the second period and advancing the light-weight Lady Jet to the individual state tournament.

“Marissa finished third in the tournament she was originally seated fourth in. Her advancing to the state tournament early in her career is a real accomplishment. I am very proud to be able to coach her,” said Coach McNeely.

Marissa Vincent will represent her Jets Wrestling program in the 113 weight class at the state tournament on Feb. 15.
