The Stone Memorial Lady Panther volleyball team won the 2009 District 4AA Tournament Championship last night without dropping a set.
"They stepped up and played well," said SMHS Coach Meghan Kunzelman in her post-game comments, according to Friday's Knoxville News Sentinel. "It was great to go through the tournament without losing a set. We scheduled a lot of tough opponents this year to prepare us for the tournament. We are extremely prepared for the state tournament after playing some of the top teams in the state."
In the semi-finals, the Lady Panthers defeated Kingston 25-9, 25-11, 25-9.
In that match the team was led by Brittany Eller with 13 kills, 22 points, nine aces, and seven digs, followed by Kelli Keck with 26 assists, two kills and eight digs. Erin Keyes added six kills, while Lori Keck had eight points and 15 digs. Leslie Brown tallied four kills, four aces, eight points, and 10 digs, and Allie Blair added five aces, eight points, and seven digs.
In the District finals the Lady Panthers beat CAK 25-9, 25-10, 25-15.
In that match, the Lady Panthers were led by Eller with 20 kills and eight digs,
Kelli Keck with 37 assists and eight digs, Lori Keck with 10 points and 10
digs, Brown with four aces, four blocks and six digs. Blair tallied 11 digs, while
Erin Keyes and Casey Swafford controlled the net.
Keyes tallied seven kills and four blocks, while Swafford tallied seven kills and three blocks.
"It's all about momentum and we played great tonight. Kelli Keck set me up with a lot of great passes that made it easier," Eller told the News Sentinel.
"It's an awesome feeling knowing this is our fourth season as a team and we have come this far," added Keck.

SMHS will face the runner-up of District 3AA next week in the Region 2AA Tournament at Knox Gibbs, while CAK will face the champion.

Taylor, Green co-champs of Tennessee Senior State Open
Professional Harry Taylor and amateur Danny Green were declared co-champions of the third annual Tennessee Senior State Open presented by the City of Crossville May 21-22 at Stonehenge Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament was shortened to 18, as the second round was canceled due to unplayable course conditions, according to the TPGA.
