The 2009 football regular season comes to an end Friday night, as both Stone Memorial High School and Cumberland County High School close out the campaign with district games.
Coach Mark Wattenbarger's Panthers (2-7, 0-4) host Scott County (4-5, 0-4) on senior night.
Seniors Blake Fish, Chris Green, Kyle Miller, Ben Dodd, Cody DeRossett, Jacob Christmas, Dylan Griffin and Evan Persinger, along with the seniors from the golf, volleyball, girls soccer, cross country and bowling teams, senior cheerleaders and band members, will be honored.
If the Panthers win, they are an automatic playoff qualifier; otherwise, they may only qualify as a wild card. There are 23 automatic qualifiers and nine wild cards.
The CAK-Alcoa winner is the first-place qualifier, while the loser is a second-place qualifier. Loudon and Kingston may only qualify as a wild card.
Coach Russ Partin's Jets (2-7, 0-3) travel to White County (0-9, 0-3) Friday night for the District 6AAA finale, which will be senior night for the Warriors. Counting last week's senior night ceremonies at CCHS, this is the third straight time this has happened this season.
Congratulations to all of the CCHS seniors who were recognized last week.
If Cumberland County wins, they are an automatic playoff qualifier; otherwise, they may only qualify as a wild card. There are 27 automatic qualifiers and five wild cards.
Two victories Friday night would be very nice for Cumberland County.

Tuesday was the District 6AAA basketball media day at the First National Bank in Cookeville, hosted by Cookeville High School.
Jet Coach Will Foster and Lady Jet Coach Josh Epperson both spoke briefly about the 2009-'10 season, along with coaches from Cookeville, White County, Warren County and Coffee County.
There are new head coaches at both Coffee County and Warren County. Foster is a first-year head coach at CCHS.
I'll have more on district in the Winter Sports Preview.

A reminder to all of the elementary junior varsity coaches to please fax in your scores in a timely matter. To have a complete scoring summary, all players who played, whether they scored or not, will be listed. Please include first and last names and be sure the final score matches up with the total score of all of the individual players.
The photos for the varsity teams for the CCHS feeder schools will be taken on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the "Meet the Jets and Future Jets" night at CCHS.
Photos for the SMHS feeder schools will be taken on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Panther Preview night, unless it is switched to another night, if the Panther football team makes it into the football playoffs.
