Elementary JV basketball has resumed

The Cumberland County Elementary Junior Varsity basketball league resumed play on Thursday.

Here are the results that were received:

South at Crab Orchard

South 44, Crab Orchard 21: Drew Vaden scored 13 points to lead South over Crab Orchard.

Ben Kindred led Crab Orchard with 10 markers.

South (44): Hale 4, Clark 5, Randell 4, Vaden 13, Cox 8, Woody 4, Adams 4, Neal 2

Crab Orchard (21): Carlton 8, Kindred 10, Pugh 3, no other players were listed.

South 45, Crab Orchard 19: Makenzie Iles tallied 16 points to lead the Lady Rebels over the Lady Tigers.

Destiny Carlton led Crab Orchard with 12 points.

Homestead 46, Martin 11: Nathaniel Sexton and Eli Scarbrough tallied 10 points each to lead the Bulldogs over the Eagles.

Alex Dixon led Martin with four points.

Martin 38, Homestead 16: "I thought both teams hustled after the ball. My girls played very aggressive tonight. We worked the ball and that's what we got," said Martin coach Penny Blaylock.

Bailey Davis scored 22 points with 10 rebounds and four steals, while Sydney Brewer had nine points and four steals.

"I also had two girls come off the bench and hustle," added the Lady Eagle coach. "I am very proud of the way both teams played hard."

Belah Capps had four steals and two points.

Martin (38): Davis 22, Woods 3, Brewer 9, Roysden 2, Capps 2.

North at Brown

North 42, Brown 35: Avery Conley tallied 14 points, and Chandler VanNatter added 10 to lead the North Patriots over the Brown Bears.

Cade Smith scored 23 markers to lead the Bears.

    The Cumberland County High School Jet soccer team was recognized May 22 at their annual banquet, after finishing third in the district and posting a school-record 11 wins. The team finished with an 11-7-1 record, after losing 4-3 to Coffee County in the district tournament.

    Tryouts for the 2012 Cumberland County High School Lady Jet volleyball team will be May 30-June 1 from noon to 2 p.m. in the CCHS gym.

  • Taylor, Green co-champs of Tennessee Senior State Open

    Professional Harry Taylor and amateur Danny Green were declared  co-champions of the third annual Tennessee Senior State Open presented by the City of Crossville May 21-22 at Stonehenge Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament was shortened to 18, as the second round was canceled due to unplayable course conditions, according to the TPGA.

    Cumberland County High School didn't have go far to find a wrestling coach for 2012-'13, as former assistant and Phoenix School teacher Wes McNeely will replace retiring coach James Brady.
