The Cumberland County High School swim team and six high schools from East Tennessee gathered for the first Division I East Meet on Oct. 29 at the Gallatin Civic Center in Gallatin.
Captain Kyle Presson and Sean LaChance each made regional time cuts in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle races.
Kyle Presson placed first in the 200 free and second in the 100 free, while LaChance placed second in the 200 and tied for third in the 100.
Freshman Lee Presson made a regional time cut in the 50-yard freestyle, placing in the top 10, while Joel Ilgenfritz swam the race in a personal best time of 30.84 and placed 11th in the race.
Lee Presson swam the 100 breast stroke in 1:22.34, which is less than one second off the regional time cut. Ilgenfritz swam the 100 back stroke in 1:39.22 to place fourth.
The boys rounded off the meet by swimming the 200 free relay in 1:56.06.
The Lady Jets began the meet with the 50-yard freestyle.
Captain Abigayle Claflin placed eighth in 33.56. Vanessa Hofbauer placed 12th in 37.97 and Korinthya Smith in the top 15 in 44.49.
The 100-yard freestyle was the next race for the girls with three entries — Claflin ninth in 1:16.47; Rebecca Monday 10th in 1:18.39 and Smith in the top 20 in 1:50.50.
Junior Sadie Shadden placed 10th in the back stroke in 1:45.72.
The last individual race for the girls was the 100 breast stroke with Shadden swimming a personal best time in 1:56.47 for eighth place. Monday placed fifth with a time of 1:34.06, and Hofbauer placed seventh with a time of 1:49.18.
The 200 free relay team included Claflin in the lead position, Hofbauer, Monday and Shadden (anchor) with a team best time of 2:26.39.
"This was the first race of the season and the first race for the new swimmers to the team. We were pleased to have set five regional times and several personal best times," said Coach Vicki Presson.
The team raced in Gallatin on Thursday, Nov. 5, for their second Division I East meet.

The Cumberland County High School Jet soccer team was recognized May 22 at their annual banquet, after finishing third in the district and posting a school-record 11 wins. The team finished with an 11-7-1 record, after losing 4-3 to Coffee County in the district tournament.

Taylor, Green co-champs of Tennessee Senior State Open
Professional Harry Taylor and amateur Danny Green were declared co-champions of the third annual Tennessee Senior State Open presented by the City of Crossville May 21-22 at Stonehenge Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament was shortened to 18, as the second round was canceled due to unplayable course conditions, according to the TPGA.

McNeely named CCHS wrestling coach
Cumberland County High School didn't have go far to find a wrestling coach for 2012-'13, as former assistant and Phoenix School teacher Wes McNeely will replace retiring coach James Brady.
