CCHS basketball teams begin a busy week with SMHS

The Cumberland County High School basketball teams have a busy week, starting tonight at cross-town rival Stone Memorial.

Coach Will Foster's Jets are 4-2 overall, after dropping a 74-69 decision to the Chattanooga Patriots last Tuesday. The Patriots are a team of home-schooled students from the Southeast Tennessee area.

CCHS' top scorers are Derreck Hankins (13.7), Caleb Parsons (14.5) and Andrew Cravens (10.2), while Cravens is the leading rebounder with 37, followed by Parsons (26), Kyle Pritchard (22) and Matt Jones (16).

Spencer Rogers, John Bilbrey, Brandon Hawkins, Steven Hill and Terryl Bowen have contributed to the cause.

Coach Josh Epperson's Lady Jets (5-1) are on a four-game winning streak, since losing to Livingston at South Fentress Elementary.

Emily Scarbrough has the led the team in scoring, averaging over 20 points per game, and has had a lot of assistance from Beth Ann Swafford, Erica Lane, Brandi Green, Taylor Vaden, Jaime Rector, Kelsey Daugherty, Jacyln Reagan and Kat Kerr, since Sara Loveday was injured at Livingston.

Freshmen Whitney Hankins, Brianna Hawkins-Clark, Ivy Shinn and Caylin Griswold have contributed to the cause.

On Thursday, it will "old" vs. "new" when the teams travel to Soddy-Daisy, which moved from the "old" District 6AAA into the "new" District 5AAA, after the TSSAA realignment this year.

CCHS went from the "old" District 5AAA into the "new" District 6AAA, but this will be a Region 3AAA match-up.

The Lady Trojans (3-1, 1-1) were beaten 44-39 by McMinn County last Friday, while the Trojans (5-1, 2-0) defeated McMinn County 76-70.

CCHS will host the Smith County Owls on Friday.

The Lady Owls (2-5, 0-1) lost to Upperman 50-24 last Friday, and are without 6'8" senior Kayci Ferris, who is out with an injury.

The Owls (4-3, 0-1) lost to Upperman 59-39 last Friday.

Smith County is a member of District 8AA.
