Jet wrestling team defeats Sequatchie County 42-36

The Cumberland County High School Jet wrestling team defeated Sequatchie County 42-36 Tuesday evening, after the team competed in the 2009 Dalton Carpet Classic on Saturday, Dec. 5, in Dalton, GA.

CCHS 42, Sequatchie County 36: The Jets received pins from Anthony Giattino in 37 seconds and Jacob Kilby in 20 seconds.

Cody Staggs had an 8-7 decision over Cory Mitchell, while Shane McGonigle picked up a 9-6 decision over Clay Kelly.

Cody Caruthers, Andrew Eller, Shaedon Tilley and Anthony Barnes all received forfeits; however, the Jets gave up four forfeits.

Dalton Carpet Classic: Jacob Kilby placed second out of a 15-man bracket at 112, as the team had 11 overall wins.

Dec. 3 matches

CCHS 54, Farragut 23: The Jets defeated Farragut 54-23 on Dec. 3, as Anthony Giattino, Jacob Kilby, Joshua Murner, Cody Staggs and Anthony Barnes each recorded pins.

Cody Caruthers, Andrew Eller, Bobby Phillips and William Harvey earned forfeit wins, while the Jets gave up three forfeits.

CCHS 48, Hardin Valley 28: Giattino, Kilby, Staggs, Caruthers, Eller, Phillips and McGonigle each recorded pins, while Tilley won by forfeit.

The Jets will compete in the Whitley County, KY, Duals on Saturday, Dec. 12, and then grapple Cookeville and Wayne Couny, KY, at Stone Memorial on Thursday, Dec. 17.

The Cumberland County High School Jet soccer team was recognized May 22 at their annual banquet, after finishing third in the district and posting a school-record 11 wins. The team finished with an 11-7-1 record, after losing 4-3 to Coffee County in the district tournament.

Taylor, Green co-champs of Tennessee Senior State Open
Professional Harry Taylor and amateur Danny Green were declared co-champions of the third annual Tennessee Senior State Open presented by the City of Crossville May 21-22 at Stonehenge Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament was shortened to 18, as the second round was canceled due to unplayable course conditions, according to the TPGA.
