A beautiful fall weekend brought out 68 golfers to Dorcester Golf Club to participate in the 29th John Beatty Memorial Golf Tournament, with proceeds going to the Beaty Scholarship at the University of Tennessee.
Greg Stotts, Jackie Hardin, Larry Rhum and Reese Beard posted a 23-under-par 121 to claim the first flight by one stroke over Chad Guffey, Buster Soyers, Wade Freeman and Kerri Parker; however, it took a scorecard playoff to give Jimmy Morgan, David Clouse, Michael Jones and Tim Mosely third place over Jason Sitton, Freddie Morgan, Billy Buttram and Clifford Cram.
Stotts' team shot a 13-under-par 59 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead over Guffey's team and a four-stroke lead over four teams at nine-under-par 63. Sitton's team shot a 64 on Saturday.
Ralph Morgan, Roy Morgan, Andy Bova and Joe Morgan won the second flight with a 20-under-par 124, one stroke better (125) than Chris Parker, Alan Cook, Johnny Rhum and Nick Robbearts.
Another scorecard playoff was used to determine third place, as Bill Humble, Richard Morris, Mike Popplewell and Greg Hayes won over Jack Slaughter, Kevin Covington, Rick Dockham and Megan Burgess.
There was a logjam at the top of the second flight after Saturday's play, as eight of the nine teams shot a six-under-par 66, with Ralph Morgan's team shooting a 14-under-par 58 on Sunday to claim the flight, while Parker's team had a 59.
The two teams which tied for third both shot 11-under-par 61.
