CROSSVILLE — The Cumberland County High School basketball teams continued play in the District 6AAA Tournament Saturday night in Sparta, as the Jets earned a berth in Tuesday night's championship game against White County with a 72-67 overtime win over Cookeville, while the Lady Jets played White County Monday night in the consolation game after an 83-57 setback to Cookeville.

Both team have qualified for the Region 3AAA Tournament which begins this weekend. The Lady Jets will travel to either Bradley Central or Cleveland Friday night, while the Jets will host either Ooltewah or Cleveland this Saturday. All region games are a 7 p.m. local time.

CCHS 72, Cookeville 67: The Jets led 6-0 early in the first quarter, but the Cavaliers finished the quarter with a 7-6 run to slice the lead to 12-7 by quarter's end. Logan Parsons had half of the Jets' first-quarter point production.

Cookeville opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run to take a 13-12 advantage, but a trey by Houston triggered a 15-10 spurt to give the Jets a 27-23 lead at the break. Houston had nine points for the Jets, who were four of 11 from the floor.

Parsons converted a trey to give the Jets a 32-25 advantage, but a Lucas Ledbetter three-point play helped the Cavalier construct a 15-5 run for a 45-37 advantage; however, Dylan Qualls' 70-footer at the buzzer made it 45-40 by quarter's end.

That shot fired up the Jets and their fans, sending the team on a 9-4 run to tie the game a 49-49 on a Qualls layup with 4:19 left in regulation. Cavaliers rebuilt the lead to 55-51, but a Diego Poore jumper keyed a 5-1 run to tie the game at 56-56 with 17.4 seconds left.

A Cavalier offensive foul with 2.3 seconds left gave the ball back to the Jets, but time ran out before a shot could be taken.

Cookeville led 61-59 with 2:24 left in the overtime, but a trey by Houston gave the Jets the lead for good at 62-61. After Cameron O'Rourke converted a three-point play with 38.1 ticks left for a 65-61 lead, the Jets would convert six of eight free throws to seal their victory over the Cavaliers.

The Jets were 24 of 51 from the field and 17 of 25 from the charity stripe with six turnovers, while Cookevile was 26 of 57 from the field and eight of 14 from the free throw line with nine turnovers.

Leading scorers for the Jets were Poore (seven points, three rebounds, three assists), Qualls (16 points, five rebounds), J.J. Miller (two points, three rebounds, three assists), Houston (24 points, two rebounds, one assist), Cade Smith (two points, one rebound), Parsons (15 points, seven rebounds, one assist) and O'Rourke (five points, four rebounds).

Cookeville 83, CCHS 57: District Player Hannah Goolsby poured in 30 points, while teammates Karegan Turner and Sydney Marek added 20 and 13 points, respectively, led the Lady Cavaliers to their victory and a berth in the championship game against Coffee County.

The Lady Jets had three players with 12 points — Makenzie Iles, Gina Dick and Alli Hyder. Other Lady Jets playing were Maddi Potter, Sloane VanWinkle (six points), Victoria Lee, Madi McLaughlin,  Skylar VanWinkle, Rebekah Teeple (eight points), Kelsie Eldridge and Kassidy Sommer (four points).

CCHS was 19 of 49 from the field and 13 of 23 from the free throw line with 15 turnovers, while Cookeville was 25 of 43 from the field and 33 of 48 from the charity stripe with nine turnovers.

Cookeville hit five of 13 shots from the field to take a 15-10 lead over the Lady Jets after the first quarter. Hyder had four points for the Lady Jets, who were three of nine from the field with six turnovers. Sloane VanWinkle and Teeple each had three points.

The Lady Cavaliers hit nine of 11 free throws in the second quarter to outscore CCHS 21-8 to take a 36-18 lead at the break. CCHS was just two of 11 from the field and two of five from the free throw line.

Cookeville converted 11 of 14 from the charity stripe in the third quarter to outscore CCHS 23-16 for a 59-34, while CCHS was five of nine from the field and four of seven from the charity stripe. Hyder had nine points for the Lady Jets.

The Lady Cavaliers finished the game with a 24-23 fourth quarter, hitting 10 of 14 from the free throw line. CCHS was nine of 19 from the field and six for seven from the charity stripe. Iles, Dick, Teeple, Sommer and Hyder combined for the Lady Jets' points. Teeple had several rebounds.

CCHS 55, Warren County 51: Sloane VanWinkle hit seven of 10 three point baskets for 21 points with one rebound and three steals to lead the Lady Jets over the Lady Pioneers in the opening round of the tournament at White County High School and a second-straight trip to the Region 3AAA Tournament.

Rounding out the attack were Makenzie Iles (seven points, two rebounds, one assist), Gina Dick (11 points, four rebounds, five assists, two steals), Alli Hyder (seven points, one board, four steals), Rebekah Teeple (two points, one rebound, two steals), Kelsie Eldridge (six points, five rebounds, two assists) and Kassidy Sommer (one points, five rebounds, one assist, two steals).

CCHS built a 10-5 first-quarter lead, but Warren County used an 8-0 run to take a 13-10 advantage; however, the Lady Jets finished the quarter with a 7-0 for a 17-13 lead.

The two teams matched points in the second quarter (11-11), as the Lady Jets maintained a 28-24 lead at the break. CCHS was eight of 27 from the field with five turnovers, while Warren County was 10 of 22 with 11 turnovers.

CCHS built a 32-26 lead early in the third quarter, but Warren County tied the contest at 34-34 with an 8-2 spurt. Back-to-back treys by VanWinkle and Hyder gave CCHS a 40-34 lead by quarter's end.

Eldridge scored four of her six points in a 7-1 run to give CCHS a 47-35 lead with 6:32 left in the game; however, Warren County used a 9-6 spurt to slice the deficit to 53-44 with 3:10 remaining.

The Lady Jets slowed the temp in the final 3:10, making the Lady Pioneers  foul, as there was a 10-4 differential showing on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. The Lady Jets missed the front end of three straight one-plus-one's, before IIes converted two freebies with 18.1 seconds left for a 55-51 lead.

Warren County missed a desperation three as time ticked off the clock, giving the Lady Jets the hard-fought victory.

CCHS was 17 of 45 from the field, including eight of 21 from long range, and 10 of 16 from the free throw line with 19 turnovers, while Warren County was 18 of 43, including one of nine from behind the arc, and 14 of 20 from the free throw line with 20 turnovers.
