Stone volleyball team takes tournament

The Stone Memorial Lady Panther volleyball team won the White County Tournament played Aug. 29-30 in Sparta.

During the tournament, they went 8-0, beating Jackson County, Livingston Academy, Beech, Upperman and White County 2 in pool play, which

gave Stone the number one seed in the gold division of the tournament, according to Coach Megan Kunzelman.

In the semi-finals, Stone Memorial beat Mt. Juliet, 25-7 and 25-23.

In the finals, SMHS met up with Livingston and were victorious, 25-12 and 28-26.

Throughout the tournament the lady panthers were led by Mary K. Krueger, senior middle hitter, with 46 kills, 13 aces, 13 blocks and 15 digs.

Chelbi Brady, senior middle hitter, with 27 kills, seven aces and six blocks, while Alli Brewer, senior outside hitter, with 19 kills and 35 digs.

Junior outside hitter Brittany Eller with 36 kills, 12 aces and 23 digs, and junior right side hitter, Leslie Brown recorded 21 aces and Junior setter Kelli Keck had 102 assists.

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers traveled to Oak Ridge for a non-district match-up. The Lady Panthers came home with a hard-fought win, taking the match in three straight games, 26-24, 25-19, 25-18.

The Lady Panthers were led by Krueger with six kills, eight blocks and 11 digs, while Brady had seven kills, Alli Brewer added nine digs, Eller had 12 kills

and Keck had 22 assists and seven digs.
