CCHS Football Booster Club Garage Sale: The Cumberland County High School Football Booster Club will host a garage sale on Saturday, July 11, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the CCHS parking lot. Proceeds benefit the Jet football program.
Summer LaCrosse Camp: The Cookeville High School summer lacrosse camp for boys in grades 5-12 will be Thursday and Friday, July 9-10 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, July 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Upper Cumberland Soccer Complex on Whitaker Rd. in Cookeville. The cost is $75.

Don Helms Memorial Golf Tournament: The first Don Helms Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Shriners Children's Hospital will be played Friday, July 17, at the Lake Tansi Golf Course. There will be 1 p.m. shotgun start for the tournament, which is co-sponsored by the Big South Fork Opry and the city of Crossville.
The entry fee is $55 per player or $220 per team. The four-person scramble uses a modified Oldsmobile scramble format. The field is limited to the first 30 paid teams.
Entry fees are available at Crossville Parks and Recreation.
The tournament directors are Steve Hill, Bill Loggins and Tammie French.

Art Guild Golf Fund-raiser: The seventh annual Art Guild Golf Tournament will tee off with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. on the Brae Course at Heatherhurst Golf Club on July 31.
This fun-filled event is open to four person teams, in three divisions, (men, women, and mixed) and will feature prizes for two (2) gross best balls per team and two (2) net best balls per team in each division.
Don’t miss out on the fun. Entry deadline is June 30. Entry fee is $70 per person which includes 18 holes of golf with cart and luncheon at Legends.

Golf tournament proceeds support many worthwhile children’s programs including the Picture Person program for children in our Cumberland County elementary schools. This program helps to provide children with an appreciation of art and background information on many artists. Participating teachers enthusiastically endorse this program. The proceeds from the golf tournament will also support the summer children’s program at the new Plateau Creative Arts Center.

Salvation Army Golf Tourney: A golf tournament and fish fry to benefit the Salvation Army will be Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Lake Tansi Golf Course. The Callaway sponsored tournament is a four-person scramble with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $65 per person.
Representatives from Callaway Golf will be present with their latest golf equipment on hand for demonstration.
The proceeds of the tournament go to support two important Salvation Army programs - to provide assistance for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect by their parents and to aid our Cumberland County Armed Forces veterans.
Prizes include a $500 VISA gift card, $50 Callaway gift cards on all par 3s for closest to the hole and your choice of a Nike driver or set of irons, "Bose" home sound system and a prize for longest drive. There will be a putting contest before play.
There is a $15,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one by Thrivent Financial.
The golf tournament has hole sponsorships for $100 each. The deadline for hole sponsorships is Aug. 1, while the entry deadline for the tournament is Aug. 5.

Another Stone Memorial basketball player will be calling Bryan College home for the 2012-'13 school year, as senior Brandon Cole signed scholarship players to play for the Lions and join his former Panther teammate Robert Troino at the Dayton school.

The Cumberland County High School Lady Jet softball team was honored with a banquet Tuesday night at Mitch's in Lake Tansi.

Jet soccer team honored for great season
The Cumberland County High School Jet soccer team was recognized May 22 at their annual banquet, after finishing third in the district and posting a school-record 11 wins. The team finished with an 11-7-1 record, after losing 4-3 to Coffee County in the district tournament.

Volleyball tryouts set
Tryouts for the 2012 Cumberland County High School Lady Jet volleyball team will be May 30-June 1 from noon to 2 p.m. in the CCHS gym.

Taylor, Green co-champs of Tennessee Senior State Open
Professional Harry Taylor and amateur Danny Green were declared co-champions of the third annual Tennessee Senior State Open presented by the City of Crossville May 21-22 at Stonehenge Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament was shortened to 18, as the second round was canceled due to unplayable course conditions, according to the TPGA.

Cumberland County High School didn't have go far to find a wrestling coach for 2012-'13, as former assistant and Phoenix School teacher Wes McNeely will replace retiring coach James Brady.
