James McCormick

CROSSVILLE — April 13, 1924―Dec. 25, 2012

James Herbert McCormick, 88, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 25, 2012. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., two hours prior to the service, at Hood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woody Cemetery.

He was born April 13, 1924, in Cumberland County, the son of Jim and Cora Bell Phipps McCormick. He was retired from the United States Army having served during World War II and Korea. He was also retired after many years with TVA and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He very active in many civic and military organizations such as Masonic Lodge #483, Scottish Rite and Alhambra Shrine Club in Chattanooga, VFW Post #5025 and the American Legion Old Dixie Post #238. He served as past commander of the DAV and the American Legion.

He is survived by his son, James Lynn McCormick and his wife, Sherry, of Chattanooga;  daughter, Deborah King and her husband, Kevin, of Kingston; grandchildren, Nicki Noland, Kelsea, Shay and Winter McCormick; great-grandchildren, Jamey and Syndey Noland; many nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Clara Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Eula Mae Campbell McCormick and Willie Mae McCormick; brothers, Ernest, Toby and Charlie McCormick; and sisters, Vena Sharp, Mattie Polonus, Delcie Akins and Ola B. Woody Turner.

The family has respectfully asked that donations be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, OH, and Lexington, KY.

Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
