CROSSVILLE — May 6, 1933 — Jan. 23, 2013

Velma Mae (Hobgood) Kennedy, 79, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 23, 2013. Funeral services were held Jan. 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Kennedy, the Rev. Danny Allen and the Rev. Gregory Keller officiating. Interment was in Crossville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Kennedy was born May 6, 1933, in Puxico, MO, the daughter of the late Archie and Mary (Millstead) Hobgood.

She worked at Roselawn Southern and was a volunteer with the Good Samaritans for many years. She was a member of Bakers Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, the Rev. James Kennedy of Crossville; daughters, Ellen Straw and Kay Brown (Kenneth) of Crossville; sons, Robert Kennedy (Linda) of Crossville and Mark Kennedy (Diana) of Charlotte, TN; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Esther Jones and Myrtle McGrudger; and brothers, Charlie Hobgood and Paul Hobgood.

Pallbearers were Ray Kiley, Eddie Brown, Jeff Straw, John Straw, Mike Brown and Robert Carr.

Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
