Mrs. Joyce H. (Smith) Pigg, 85, of Crossville, passed away Jan. 27, 2013. The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home Feb. 8, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. A memorial service will follow in the Smith Funeral Home chapel at 4 p.m. Andy Bryson and Hayden Bryson will officiate.
She was born in Woodbury, TN, Jan. 29, 1927. Her parents were the late Henry H. Smith and Margaret Pearl (Reed) Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. "Sonny" Pigg; brothers, Hayden Smith and Hobert Smith; sisters, Myra Bryson, Grace Engle and Clima Bryson; and by a nephew, Reed Jones.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Jane and James R. Powers of Crossville; sister-in-law, Lillian "Muddy" Wallace of Hoover, AL; nephews, Andy and Patricia Bryson and Hayden Bryson, both of Woodbury; nieces, Susan and Charles Sain of Bradyville, Nancy Griner of Hoover, AL, and Sally Smith of River View, FL; her nephew Reed's widow, Jo Jones of Woodbury; great-nephews, Andy and Katrina Bryson of Murfreesboro, Robert and Amy Sain of Murfreesboro; and several great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Mrs. Pigg was a Protestant. She was a newspaper publisher and became the first female member of the Tennessee Press Association. She was a philanthropist supporting numerous non-profit organizations and individuals in need.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 E. Adams St. Crossville, TN 38555, Art Circle Public Library Foundation, 3 East St. Crossville, TN 38555 or the Wharton Nursing Home, 878 W. Main, Pleasant Hill, TN 38578.
