CROSSVILLE —
Jan. 30, 2013
William Ralph Padgett, 78, went peacefully to be with our Lord Jan. 30, 2013 after a long battle with cancer, with his family by his side. Funeral services were held Feb. 3 at Pine Eden Baptist Church, with Pastors Danny Smith and Ken Clayton officiating. Burial followed in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
In 1957, Ralph married Wanda Jean Brewer. Ralph served a tour of duty in US Army. He returned to Crossville and he and Jean had three children. Jean passed away in 1994. He married Peggy Luanna Key Landers in 1996. Ralph was born into a family of 10 children. His mother, Elizabeth (Bessie) Padgett Parsons, predeceased him, as did all his siblings except one sister, Edith Padgett Jordan (Ed Ryback) of Crossville.
Ralph loved Cumberland County and the people here. Ralph's experience was varied and his impact on the economy of Cumberland County was significant. He and his children and employees have seen success in various businesses, including their current company, Plateau Truck & Tractor, LLC.
Ralph quietly helped numerous individuals in Cumberland County, both on a personal and professional level. He was a modest individual with strong work ethic who believed that honesty should be the cornerstone of any business. He took pride in seeing others succeed and remained silent about any part he may have had in their success.
Ralph served on the advisory board of Regions Bank (and their predecessor banks) for many years. He was a charter member of Pine Eden Baptist Church and was instrumental in constructing the facility in which the church is currently housed.
Ralph is survived by loving wife and caregiver, Peggy Luanna; sons, Steve Padgett and Kevin Padgett (Rhonda); daughter, Amy Padgett; stepson, Chad Landers; stepdaughter, Nicki Landers (Leslie Fish); eight grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
