Mr. Lawrence Harold “Larry” Crawford, staff sergeant, U.S. Army, retired, 70, a resident of Crossville, passed away Dec. 7, 2012, in the Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville. The family will receive friends tonight, Dec. 11, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. EST at Evans Mortuary, 805 N. Gateway Ave. in Rockwood. Graveside service and interment will be Dec. 12 at 1:30 p.m. EST in the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy., in Knoxville. Full military honors will be presented by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
He was born Oct. 21, 1942, in Torrance, CA, to Percy Crawford and June Rucker Crawford. Mr. Crawford was a retired staff sergeant with the United States Army, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served two tours of duty. Larry was a former police officer with the Dayton, TN, Police Department and was a former emergency medical technician with Rhea County Emergency Medical Services for several years. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and especially deep sea fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Doug Crawford; and sister, Beverly Crawford.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Crawford of Crossville; and sister, Cheryl Crawford of Cheyenne, WY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Foundation.
