Flora Ellen Harris Asa passed away Jan. 19, 2013. She was 95. Interment will be in Desoto, IL, Jan. 26.
Mrs. Asa moved from her home in DuQuoin, IL, to Crossville in 2010 to be nearer her family, daughter Lora Ellen Asa Waller and husband, Andrew; granddaughter, Anna Strong and husband, Donald; great-granddaughter, Sarah Strong; and great-great-grandson, Donnie Strong. In fact, she had five generations living within a mile radius of her new home.
She was born in 1917 in Jackson County, IL, one of nine children born to James Richard Harris and Effie May Wheeler Harris. As a second-grader, she survived the devastating Tri-State Tornado of 1925.
She married James William Asa in 1934 and they had two children, Billie Dean and Lora Ellen. She was a nurse at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin for many years before retiring to private duty. She was a lifelong Methodist and a member of DuQuoin First United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, all of her siblings, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Christopher Parsons was born March 14, 1927 ,in Crossville, TN. Charles went home to meet his Lord and Savior in his home surrounded by his loving family. The graveside service will be today, May 24, at 3 p.m. EDT at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Ronnie Capes will perform the service. There will be no prior visitation.
