CROSSVILLE —
J.D. Whiteaker, 70, passed from this life April 22, 2012, at Willows at Winchester Care and Rehab Center in Winchester. A celebration of life will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home Cremation Center at 1786 Smithville Hwy. in Sparta from 4 to 6 p.m. April 25.
Mr. Whiteaker was born in Putnam County May 21, 1941, the son of the late Burl and Rulie C. Whiteaker.
J.D. was a true entrepreneur. He was a partner in Sportsman's World, Bowling World and J.D.'s Place. He was well known in the Marine industry and a respected member of the local business community for many years.
Surviving family members include his wife, Mary Jane Swafford Whiteaker; son, Jeff Whiteaker and wife, Karen, of Kingston Springs; brother, Troy Whiteaker and wife, Jean, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Nicholas and Erica Whiteaker of Kingston Springs; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Ted Swafford; and special friends and caregivers, Debbie McDaniel and Bill Gilbert of Quebeck, as well as many other close family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Burkett and Amanda Swafford.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Tennessee Inc., 1459 Interstate Dr., Suite 211, Cookeville, TN 38501, or Calvary Cemetery in Big Lick, c/o Oliver and Mabel Blaylock, 1019 Winningham Rd., Crossville, TN 38555, or the American Cancer Society.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home-Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
