Vernon R. DeRossett, 86, of Westel, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Cumberland House Hospice, Crossville. The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Westel Baptist Church, Westel, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Hascue Carter and Rev. Mike Higgins officiating. Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.
He was a member of Daysville Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. After retirement, he became a volunteer fireman with the Westel Volunteer Fire Dept. He also did disaster relief work with the Tennessee Baptist Association, Red Cross and Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death 4 months ago by his wife of almost 65 years, Marge DeRossett; parents, Walter Rufus and Mary Leona McKinney DeRossett; sister, Viola Hayes; and brother, Volney DeRossett.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan Williams and husband, Leonard of Harrison, TN, and Nancy Geraci and husband, Frank, of Crossville; sons, Mike DeRossett and wife, Martha, of Dayton, Steve DeRossett and wife, Evelyn, of Daysville, and Andy DeRossett and wife, Denise, of Louisville, TN; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five beautiful, loving sisters; one sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests donations be made to Cumberland House Hospice, 30 E. Adams St., Crossville, TN 38555.
