O.C. Fields

CROSSVILLE — Nov. 4, 1934—Feb. 13, 2013

Wilker O.C. Fields, 78, of Crossville, passed away peacefully with family by his side Feb. 13, 2013, after a three-year battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Arlon Way officiating. Burial was at Lantana Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Crossville, the son of the late Addison and Ethel (Thurman) Fields. Mr. Fields was a member of the Lantana Church of Christ.

He drove a truck for 47 years as an owner-operator. He had a passion for bluegrass music and had played in several bands in the county over the years. Most recently he was the leader of the Lantana Drifters.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Verneal (Hankins) Fields; son, Ronnie Fields (Shirley) of Crossville; daughter, Sherry Guenther (Mark) of Muddy Pond; granddaughters that he and his wife raised, Holly Garrison (Rick) of Cookeville and LIsa Fields (Eric) of Crossville; granddaughter, Ashley Tinch (Ronnie) of Jamestown; great-grandson, Darren Parks of Cookeville; great-granddaughters, Allie and Chloe Garrison of Crossville and Willow Tinch of Jamestown; five step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester Fields (Marie) of Ohio, Thurman Fields (Margie) of Deer Lodge; sister, Audine Webb (Edd) of Crossville; and sister-in-law, Eliza Fields of Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Roger Fields; brothers, Robert, Waymon and Willis Fields; sisters, Molly Glenn, Annie Wyatt, Vassie Bratcher and Christine Bolin.

Pallbearers were Marvin Wyatt, Steve Bolin, James Fields, Gary Fields, Darren Parks and Ronnie Fields.

Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC (www.hoodfuneralhome.com) was in charge of the arrangements.

The family received friends Tuesday, June 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT at Evans Mortuary, with funeral service following at 7 p.m. President Charles Watkins officiated. Concluding and interment services will be today, June 18, at Roane Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m.

    Mrs. Wanda Hicks, 61, of Crossville, passed away June 13, 2013, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held June 17 at Jennings Funeral Home-Clarkrange Chapel. A private burial will follow at a later time in the Springs Chapel Cemetery.
