Charles Elmo Lewis Sr., 95, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 28, 2012, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. Funeral services were held at Main Street Church of Christ Dec. 1, with Bro. Larry McDuffee and Bro. Barry Kennedy officiating. Interment was in Linary Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
He was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Newport, AR, the son of the late Roy Clendunigan and Maude K. (McDaniels) Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Virgie (Easterly) Lewis, of Crossville; son, David Lewis and wife, Kathryn, of Knoxville; daughters, Jeanette Martin and Jeanene Houston and husband, Steve, all of Crossville; brothers, J.C. Lewis of Lepatano, AR, and Bob Lewis of West Memphis, AR; sisters, Helen Houston of Vidalia, LA, and Ann Gibson of Jonesboro, AR; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Lewis; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Elmo Lewis Jr. "Buddy;" brothers, Raymond, Fred, Teddy, John L., Frank, Cecil and Bill Lewis; sisters, Mary Pitts and Ouleda Lewis; and son-in-law, Ron Martin.
Pallbearers were David Lewis, Jeanette Martin, Jeanene Houston, Andrew Houston, Steve Houston, Courtney Houston, Robbie Martin and Sylvia Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers were Garland Brown, Roger Smith, Coye Loveday, Leon Smith, Dennis Williams, Joe Tucker and Morris Stone.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Cumberland County Special Olympics, Hilltoppers or Cumberland County Rescue Squad.
