Malliory Adcock

Nov. 27, 2006

Malliory Adcock, 84, of McMinnville, passed away Nov. 27, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 28 at Love-Cantrell-Cope Funeral Home of McMinnville, with Rex Boles officiating. Interment was in Mt. View Cemetery.

Mrs. Adcock was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a retired restaurant owner and operator.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joe G. and Marilyn Adcock of Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law, Clayta Rhea and Clark Taylor of McMinnville, Joyce and Paul Raptis of Woodbury and Bettye Sue and Joe Wooden of McMinnville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rayburn Van and Clara Turner Slatten; husband, James Gordon Adcock; grandchildren, Ricky Martin and Scott Taylor; and brothers, Harold Slatten and Billy Jo Slatten.

Wilmer L. Barnett

June 7, 1911 — Nov. 24, 2006

Wilmer Lane Barnett, 95, of Crab Orchard, passed away Nov. 24, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Rickey Graves and Bro. Mike Kerley officiating. Interment was in Antioch Cemetery.

Mr. Barnett was born June 7, 1911, in Crossville, the son of Bale and Lena (Justice) Barnett.

He worked for Roane Electric and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his daughter, Sherita Monday of Crab Orchard; sons, Larry Barnett of Crab Orchard, Kenneth Barnett of Crossville and Curtis Barnett of Seaford, DE; brother, Floyd Barnett of Crossville; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Beulah (Wilson) Barnett; sons, Carroll, Veron Keith, Layern, Raymond Lewis and Wesley Lane Barnett; daughters, Doris Wyona and Diana Sue Barnett; sisters, Elvie Brookhart and Josie Barnett; and brother, Elbert Barnett.

Pallbearers were Joe McClaran, Leamon Barnett, Roy Hamby, John Hamby, Wayne Barnett and Richard Barnett.

Sarah P. Beyer

July 5, 1912 — Nov. 22, 2006

Sarah Pauline (Castleman) Beyer, 94, of Jacksonville, NC, formerly of Crossville, passed away Nov. 22, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Banner officiating. Interment was in Green Acres Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Beyer was born July 5, 1912, in Crossville, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane (Irvin) Castleman.

She went to work for Wal-Mart when she was 70 years old as a sales clerk until she was 85 years old. She was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church. She was a Worthy Matron in the Amanda Chapter 4 Eastern Star, member of the Business Professional Women's Club, and active in the Rainbows. She was past state president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Pattie Joan Stokes of Auburndale, FL; son, Rainey Boyd Beyer of Alexandria, VA; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rainey Henry Beyer; sisters, Katie Hall, Violet Gunter, Gertrude Hargis, Gracie Elizabeth Anderson and Genevive Castleman; and brothers, Aubrey Castleman, Clarence Castleman, Leslie Castleman and Earl Castleman.

Pallbearers were Phillip Banner, James Banner, Tommy Gillespie, Boyd Beyer, Mike Mozi and John T. Anderson.

James R. Henry

June 10, 1932 — Nov. 25, 2006

James Russell Henry, 74, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 25, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 27 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Gary Robbins officiating. Interment was in Slate Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Henry was born June 10, 1932, in Crossville, the son of Louis and Tina (Hawn) Henry.

He was retired from Durrion where he worked as an electrician and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Alline Marie (Madewell) Henry of Crossville; sons, James Rick Henry of Crossville, Dick Henry of Carlisle, OH and Jackie Dale Henry of Crossville; sisters, Bernice Hamby, Jewel Proffitt and Mary Lou Brantly, all of Crossville; brothers, J.B. Henry and Stanley Henry of Crossville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Arlen and Alva Henry.

Pallbearers were Mike Wilson, Jody Wilson, Glen Wyatt, Nick Proffitt, David Henry, David Dotson, Jamie Bowling, Ted Fields and Dusty Henry.

Shaylee D. McDonald

July 9, 2001 — Nov. 23, 2006

Shaylee Danielle McDonald, 5, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 23, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 26 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Robert Dodson officiating. Burial was in Creston Cemetery.

Shaylee was born July 9, 2001, in Crossville, the daughter of Terry and Sheila McDonald.

She loved animals, especially cats. She loved "playing princess" and receiving cards from her friends all over the world. She also enjoyed her Internet friends.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brothers, Lucas and Logan McDonald; grandparents, Carl and Patricia Griffith and Dale and Wanda Crockett; aunt, Trina Renee Rector; uncle, Scott McDonald; many great-aunts and -uncles; three cousins; and special friends, Joe and Debbie Dunn.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Kenneth McDonald; and great-grandparents, William Edgar Parsons and Thelma Lucille Miller.

Pallbearers were Gary Parsons, Dewey Parsons, John Rector and Jonathan Norris.

David E. Powell

Feb. 8, 1947 — Nov. 17, 2006

David Edward Powell, 59, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Nov. 17, 2006. Memorial services will held at a later date.

Mr. Powell was born Feb. 8, 1947, in Hartford, CT, the son of C. Marc, Sr. and Edna Juneau Powell.

He lived his early years in Glastonbury, CT and graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1965. He held a B.A. degree from the University of Connecticut. He was an avid racing enthusiast all his life. It began as a childhood hobby of building toy cars to racing the family car at Connecticut Dragway in the early '60s. He continued to build racing cars and throughout the years participated in NHRA and NASCAR events.

While living in Connecticut, Mr. Powell was employed for several years at Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford. In 1991 he moved to Columbus, OH to work for the Jegs Automotive Co., a distributor of high performance parts for race cars, until his illness forced him to retire and become an avid spectator. He also was a loyal supporter of UConn sports and just recently was able to come to Connecticut to watch the football team play a game in their new stadium.

After moving to Ohio, he met and married Nancy Eileen Kirsh in 1993. They moved to Tennessee in 2005.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Powell of Fairfield Glade; mother, Edna Powell of Winsted, CT; brother, Marc Powell and wife Debra Charbonnet of Miami, FL; sister, Randy Day and husband Russell of Winsted, CT; nephews, Matthew Powell of Boston, MA, Brad Powell of Baltimore, MD, Christopher Day and wife Rachel and their son Tyler, Andrew Day of Los Angeles, CA and Heath, Clay and Blake Heinz of Miami, FL; niece Sarah Day of Winsted, CT; two stepdaughters and three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1998.

Jean J. Powers

July 21, 1927 — Nov. 24, 2006

Jean J. Quinlan Powers, 79, of Chillicothe, OH, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at her residence following an extended illness. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield Glade. Interment will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Church columbarium.

Mrs. Powers was born July 21, 1927, in West New York, NJ, the daughter of Michael and Jenny (O’Hara) Quinlan.

On June 4, 1949, she married Benjamin W. Powers, II who preceded her in death in 1995.

Mrs. Powers was a graduate of Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing and was a registered nurse. Her nursing career was varied and she was associated with the American Red Cross blood program, as a teacher at a vocational school and serving as a director of nursing in a nursing home. Her hospital career involved practice in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and as a nursing supervisor, concluding as a vice president of Nursing Services. Along with her daughter, Maureen, she owned and operated a dental and medical temporary service, from which she retired.

She and her husband, Benjamin, moved to Fairfield Glade and resided there until 2004. She was the past president of the Fairfield Glade Women’s Club.

Survivors include her daughters, Maureen Stovall of Crossville, Patti Mitrik of Pine Brook, NJ and Gayle Smith of Chillicothe, OH; son, Benjamin W. Powers III of Pinckney, MI; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Adena Health Foundation, 272 Hospital Rd., Chillicothe, OH 45601.

Alva L. Reed

Jan. 24, 1932 — Nov. 26, 2006

Alva L. Reed, 74, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 26, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Alvin Lingenfelter officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 1, at Green Acres Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Reed was born Jan. 24, 1932, in Poplarville, MS, the daughter of Alvin and Leona Lingenfelter.

She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking at the Bread of Life Rescue Mission in Crossville and most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Reed of Crossville; daughter, Brenda K. Aravadjis of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Willard Lingenfelter of Texas, Ralph Lingenfelter of Florida and Alvin Lingenfelter of Georgia; sister, Jerrie Reed of Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Alvin Reed; and brother, Melborn Lingenfelter.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Feed the Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101 or to the Bread of Life Rescue Mission, 281 W. 4th St., Crossville, TN 38555.

Dorothy A. Tiffany

Jan. 23, 1936 — Nov. 24, 2006

Dorothy Ann (Wheeler) Tiffany, 70, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 24, 2006. Visitation was held Nov. 26 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. Cremation followed with family services at a later date.

Mrs. Tiffany was born Jan. 23, 1936, in Pikeville, the daughter of Robert L. and Ida Elizabeth (Brewer) Wheeler.

She enjoyed reading and loved making her home open to many. She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Michael Parham of Crossville; granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth Bankus of Crossville; son, James G. Viars III of Eureka, MT; adopted daughter, Janny Goff of Ninilchik, AK; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nora Jean Wheeler and Morris Lewis and Virgina and Don McBay, all of Pikeville; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and JoAnn Wheeler of Cape Coral, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Burt Tiffany; sister, Billie Faye Wheeler Crawford; brother, Ronald Wheeler; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Roy O. Woody

Aug. 12, 1931 — Nov. 21, 2006

Roy Odell Woody, 75, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 21, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Hank Jones officiating. Interment was in Woody Cemetery. Full military honors were provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Mr. Woody was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Crossville, the son of Mary Jane (Woody) Baldwin.

He was a retired roofer and of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Woody of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Rinold Hall of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Linda Woody of Crossville; sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Harold Christopher of Crossville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Phipps; and brothers, Ridley Baldwin, Vernon Baldwin and Kermit Baldwin.

Pallbearers were Reggie Hall, Hazen Hall, Conrad Mills, Kenneth Woody, Mark Christopher and Frank Christopher.
