Linda M. Brown

Sept. 2, 1955 — April 30, 2007

Linda Madonna Brown, 51, of Crossville, passed away April 30, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 3 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial, with Pastor Mike Kerley officiating. Burial was in Smith's Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 2, 1955, in White County, the daughter of Oakley and Patty Lockwood Anderson.

Before becoming disabled, she was a factory worker. She was also a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Jeffery Brown of Crossville; brothers, Don Anderson and Ed Anderson; sisters, Janice Davis (Lynn), Judy Sapp (Glenn), Connie Austin (Brad), Cindy Kent (Dan) and Pam Wyatt (Bert).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby Anderson and Gene Anderson.

Pallbearers were Keith Sapp, Jim Bob Anderson, Nick Anderson, Joe Kent, Jimmy Baldwin, James Young and Christopher Sapp.

Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.



John Gist

Sept. 21, 1923 — May 4, 2007

John "Verden" Gist, 83, beloved family man and highly respected friend, succumbed to a lengthy illness May 4, 2007. Visitation was held May 7 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Belleview, FL.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Elsie Marie Gist, and son John V. Gist, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Gist; granddaughters, Autumn Thomas and Amy Gist of Florida; brother, Raymond Gist, and sister, Joyce Gunter of Tennessee; and numerous other family members in Florida, Tennessee and Ohio.

Mr. Gist enlisted in the Army and served his country during World War II in France, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Summerfield, and was highly respected and loved by family and friends alike.

Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.



Alma Hartford

Jan. 1, 1912 — May 1, 2007

Alma Hartford, 95, of Crossville, passed away May 1, 2007. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

Mrs. Hartford was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Sheridan, IN.

She was a homemaker and a member of Lantana Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane Lussier (Bob) of Crossville; sons, Ellis F. Hartford Jr. of Florida; grandchildren, Deborah Oakes (Howard) of Crossville, Diane Hartford-Schulert (Bill) of Michigan, Don Hadley (Debra), Doug Hadley and Daniel Hadley; great-grandchildren, Zach, Alex and Abigail Oakes of Crossville, Deidre Grace Sang Schulert of Michigan, Ashleigh, Chelseigh, Nina and Emma Hadley; sister, Grace Parr of Georgia; and nephews, Mike Parr (Sylvia) and Dennis Parr (Gloria).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ellis Ford Hartford.

Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.



Eva M. Johnson

May 16, 1933 — May 2, 2007

Eva Mae (Payne) Johnson, 73, of Crossville, passed away May 2, 2007. A graveside service was held May 7 at New Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with Rick Bergman officiating.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 16, 1933, in Clayton, OK, the daughter of George and Ella (Mattox) Payne.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia A. Johnson of Crossville and Ilene Miller of Redding, CA; grandchildren, Bunnie A. Wilhelm, Robert B. Palm Jr., Sherry M. Daugherty and Ronald E. Daugherty; and great-grandchildren, Crystal Daugherty, Summer Daugherty, Nathaniel Daugherty, Daniel Daugherty, Briar Mathews and Brayden Palm.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard E. Johnson.

Billie F. Kendrick

Sept. 3, 1940 — April 29, 2007

Billie Faye (Hicks) Kendrick, 66, of Crossville, passed away April 29, 2007. Funeral services were held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Miamisburg, OH, with Bro. Frank Kelley officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in West Carrollton, OH.

Mrs. Kendrick was born Sept. 3, 1940, in Estill, KY, the daughter of Alkie and Hattie (Watts) Hicks.

She was a dry cleaning press operator and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Kendrick of Crossville; daughters, Regina Rogers of Crossville, April Reeves of Crossville and Elizabeth Jones of Franklin, OH; sons, Phil Kendrick and Barry Kendrick of Crossville; sisters, June Fisher of Wilmington, OH, Wanda Stahl of Miamisburg, OH, Carol Mosley of Bugyrus, OH, Shirley Cornett of Addison, MI and Roberta Adams of Miamisburg, OH; brothers, Talmage Hicks of Belleville, MI, James Edward Hicks of Mousie, KY, William W. Hicks of Wilmington, OH, Shelby Hicks of Mousie, KY and Roger Hicks of Dry Creek, KY; and 10 grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Amburgey; and brothers, Glenn Hicks and Ray Hicks.

Lucy V. Lemons

Sept. 6, 1923 — May 2, 2007

Lucy Victoria (Stanislawski) Lemons, 83, of Crossville, passed away May 2, 2007.

Mrs. Lemons was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Elyria, OH, the daughter of Michael and Lucy (Behner) Stanislawski.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd Lemons of Crossville; son, Troy Ball of Dewey, AZ; and grandchildren, Troy Ball and Tammy Prather.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Stanley C. Sampley Jr.

May 12, 1938 — April 26, 2007

Stanley Charles Sampley Jr., 68, of Crossville, passed away April 26, 2007. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Fairfield Glade Sportsman's Club.

Mr. Sampley was born May 12, 1938, in Monterey.

He was a long-time resident of Crossville and a member of First Baptist Church in Crossville. He served in the United States Marines and the United States Air Force. He served as a sheriff's deputy and ATF agent in Tennessee, and was a driller of gas and oil wells. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting skeet and trap and entertaining friends with interesting anecdotes.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Carol Stinson Sampley of Crossville; beloved daughter, Susan Cynthia Bickford of Burkley, MA; son, Stanley C. Sampley III of Boston, MA; stepson, Patrick Kelly (Bear) Capeheart of Sugarhill, GA; grandchildren, Christopher, Dan, Erin, Drew, Allie and Jet.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Charles Sampley Sr.; mother, Mollie Dear Woody Sampley Host; stepfather, Ernest Host Jr.; and brother, Larry Alan Host.

    Our beautiful angel, Lou Ella (Turner) Kemmer, 70, went home to be with the Lord May 18, 2012, after an incredible and courageously fought battle over the past several months. The family celebrated her life May 21 in her home church, the Church of God on Sparta Hwy., where she raised her family. Bro. Gene Burgess officiated the service. She was laid to rest at Grassy Cove United Methodist Cemetery.

    Otto Wheeley, 90, of Johnson City and formerly of Lafayette, passed away May 21, 2012. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Lafayette. Interment will be in Macon County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m., and tomorrow from 9 a.m. until the service.

Burial was in Green Acres Memory Gardens with military honors given at the graveside. Bro. Jack Lawson and Bro. Phillip Lawson officiated with special music by Judy Waldo, Paul and Helen Lawson.
