Gregory Brian Axline, 50, of Crossville, passed away May 14, 2007. Memorial services were held May 17 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Parrigan officiating. Burial was in Warnes Grove Cemetery in London, KY.
Mr. Axline was born Dec. 9, 1956, in Camp Lejune, NC, the son of Robert Lloyd and Lilah Stanton Axline of Crossville.
He worked as a hydraulic technician and also as a wrecker driver, working the turnpike. He was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fourth Dimension. He loved cars, trucks and motorcycles, both models and the real thing. He also enjoyed music, television and the guitar.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Brian Axline of Tulsa, OK; stepson, Matthew Brown of St. Cloud, FL; daughter, Misty Mosely of Orlando, FL; sisters, Susan Monick of Orlando, FL; and grandchildren, Alissa, Adam Jr. and Aden Mosely.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cherry Brown Axline.

Walter Barnwell
April 28, 1921 — May 14, 2007
Walter "Hagor" Barnwell, 86, of Crab Orchard, passed away May 14, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 19 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Pastor Elmer Graham officiating. Special music was provided by Archie and Linda Howard. Burial was in Haley's Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Barnwell was born April 28, 1921, in Cumberland County, the son of Walter and Betty Hedgecoth Barnwell.
He was retired from Franklin Limestone, working as a crusher operator and also spent time farming. He attended Pomona Full Gospel Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He enjoyed gardening, farming and family outings. He also liked to fish and hunt. The love he shared with his five generations of family was generous to each and every one.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Barnwell of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, June and John Murphy; sisters, Hazel Sloan of Cleveland, OH and Pauline Scott of Crossville; grandchildren, Ruth Keck, Sandy Pippin, Ana Murphy, Debbie Hawk, John Doyle Murphy and Jackie Murphy; great-grandchildren, Warren, J.C. and Jacob Murphy, Donavan and Arieal Murphy, Taylor, Timothy and Martha Pippin, Tessa Detweiler, Robbie Dickens, Ashley and Cody Keck, Cody Hawk and Bonnie and Jessica Hawk; and great-great-grandchildren, Angel and Jamie Dickens.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Tollett Barnwell; sisters, Clara Durham, Lela Pugh, Emma Pugh, Edith Monday and Mary Sherrill; and brothers, Warden, Lynn, Larkin and Hiram Barnwell.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Dickens, Jimmy Turner, John Doyle Murphy, Jackie Murphy, Taylor Pippin and Danny Pippin.
Honorary pallbearer was Cody Keck.

Vera Button

Vera (Rose) Button, 94, of Crossville, passed away May 9, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 12 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Gary Robbins officiating. Burial was in Woody Cemetery in Crossville.
Mrs. Button was born June 25, 1912, in Wilder, TN, the daughter of Alvin Hawkins Rose and Mae (Woody) Rose.
She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Ray Button Jr. of Crossville, Tommy Button of Crossville and Charles Button of Huntsville, AL; daughters-in-law, Sue Button of Crossville and Dianne Button of Huntsville, AL; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond G. Button Sr.; and brother, Charles Rose.

Gene A. Dixon Sr.
April 25, 1942 — May 14, 2007
Gene Arthur Dixon Sr., 65, of Crossville, passed away May 14, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 17 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Danny Allen and Bro. Archie Howard officiating. Interment was in Fredonia Cemetery.
Mr. Dixon was born April 25, 1942, in Crossville, the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Buckner) Dixon.
He was a bridge inspector for the Tennessee Department of Transportation and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Sue (Netherton) Dixon of Crossville; daughters, Norma Ashburn and Jamie Bell of Crossville; son, Michael Dixon of Crossville; mother, Dorothy (Buckner) Dixon of Crossville; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Edd and Irma Dixon, Charlie and Julia Dixon and Marvin and Linda Dixon, all of Crossville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Dixon; and son, Gene Arthur Dixon Jr.
Pallbearers were David Marshall, Ervin Netherton, J.B. Netherton, David Price, Wendell Houston, Nicky Anderson, Edd Dixon Jr., Mike Dillman and Jerry Netherton.

James R. DuBois Sr.
Sept. 28, 1933 — May 13, 2007
James Richard "Dick" DuBois Sr., 73, of Crossville, passed away May 13, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 17 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor John Halliburton officiating. Special music was provided by Joyce Hoffman. Burial was in Crossville City Cemetery. The Veterans Honor Guard served as pallbearers and also provided full military honors.
Mr. DuBois was born Sept. 28, 1933, in Marlboro, NY, the son of Albert and Henrietta DuBois.
He had been a building inspector before retiring and had served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was an avid bowler, soft ball player and golfer.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Hansen DuBois of Crossville; sons and daughters-in-law, James R. "Jamie" and Angie DuBois Jr. of New York and Albert Douglas "Doug" and Tonya DuBois of Florida; grandson, Brian DuBois of New York; brothers and sister-in-law, Roger and Jean DuBois and Barton DuBois, all of New York; sister, Sally Jones of New York; mother-in-law, Gloria Hansen of New York; in-laws, Johnny and Lori Hansen, Judy and Gordy Misner, Joe and Debbie Hansen, Joyce and Steve Hoffman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas DuBois; brother, Roy DuBois and wife, Thomasina DuBois; and father-in-law, John Hansen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association.

Richard R. Hamby

Richard Robert Hamby, 33, of Crossville, passed away May 12, 2007. A Masonic service was held May 16 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted May 17 from the funeral home, with Bro. Stephen Ramsey officiating. Interment was in Linary Cemetery.
Mr. Hamby was born March 10, 1974, in Crossville, the son of Martin and Bobbie (Bow) Hamby II of Crossville.
He was a truck driver and a member of the Crossville Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Samantha Hamby of Crossville; grandmother, Marie Ramey of Crossville; and son, Robert Blaylock of Pikeville.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Martin "Buzz" Thurman Hamby III.
Pallbearers were William Benton Threet, Harold Broughton, Bill Hargis, Gary Josey, Daniel L. Husk, Jerry D. Hassler and Charles Robert.

Jerry W Hinch
May 16, 1944 — May 14, 2007
Jerry W. Hinch, 62, of Crab Orchard, passed away May 14, 2007. Funeral services were conducted May 17 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Farmer officiating. Burial was in Haley's Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Hinch was born May 16, 1944, in Roane County, the son of Samuel Willis and Lois Kindrick Hinch.
He had been employed as a construction superintendent at Fairfield Glade and had formerly served as mayor of Crab Orchard. He was also a convenience store owner in Crab Orchard. He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served during Vietnam, was a member of the National Guard and a member of the VFW Post 5025. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hunting for arrowheads.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Hinch of Crab Orchard; mother and stepfather, Lois Kindrick Hinch Thurman and William "Bill" Thurman of Crossville; son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Kim Hinch of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndy and Adam Findley of Lawton, OK; brother, Gary Hinch of Tarpon Springs, FL; grandchildren, Tara Findley Cross and husband Josh, Brittany Findley, Maranda Findley, Devin Hinch and Lexi Hinch; and great-grandchildren, Elisjsha Cross and Isaac Cross.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Willis Hinch.
Pallbearers were Jody Sherrill, Alvin Sherrill, Willard Sherrill, Ray Hess, Jerry Edwards and Tony Amonette.

Harold C. MacManus
May 16, 2007
Harold Cameron MacManus, 85, of Lutz, FL, passed away May 16, 2007, in Pikeville after a short illness. A memorial service in his honor will be held at the Lutz First United Methodist Church in Florida in June.
Mr. MacManus was born in 1921 in Chillicothee, MO, but moved to Tampa when only nine months old. He lived at Ballast Point until age 10 when he moved to Lutz where he lived with his parents, Harold and Grace MacManus, and sister, Madeline (Mrs. Ira King) on Lake Cooper. All preceded him in death.
He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1939, attended the University of Tampa, then was commissioned into the U.S. Navy. He served as a flight instructor at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola during World War II. After leaving the service, he briefly owned a carpentry business with Louis Taylor. Most of his life he worked in the floor covering and carpet industry as a mill representative and traveled across much of central and north Florida. But no matter how weary he was from traveling, he was never too tired to spend time with his children when he got home. He immensely enjoyed his many customers and spoke fondly of them long after his retirement.
A Pasco County citrus grower for many years, MacManus served on the Blue Key Growers Association board of directors before it disbanded. He continued to work in his grove after his retirement from the carpet industry and loved restoring old tractors.
Mr. MacManus was a member of the Lutz United Brethren Church (now the First United Methodist Church of Lutz) for over 75 years. As a boy, he was one of the first Scouts in Boy Scout Troop 12, sponsored by the church. He belonged to the Builders Class where each Sunday morning he asked for "the closing prayer." In his earlier years, he served as Sunday school superintendent and was a member of the finance committee.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and greatly enjoyed his sense of humor and kindness.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Riegler MacManus; children, Dr. Susan MacManus, Land O' Lakes, FL, Dr. Lou MacManus and husband Warren Harrison of Pikeville and Dr. Cameron MacManus Jr. and wife Julia of Pikeville; grandchildren, Cameron R. MacManus of Patterson, NJ, Allison MacManus of Queens, NY, Susan Harrison of Columbus, OH and Genelle Harrison of Bar Harbor, ME; brother-in-law, George Riegler; sisters-in-law, Ann Riegler Avriett and husband Dick, Gloria Riegler Herms and husband Norman; and many special nieces and nephews.
Donations in his memory may be made to Bledsoe County EMS, Rt. 6, Box 3940, Pikeville, TN 37367.
His family wishes to give a special thanks to the people of Bledsoe County and Cumberland County for their helpfulness, kindness and caring.

Philip S. Wright

Philip S. Wright, 69, of Crossville, passed away May 9, 2007. Memorial services were held May 12 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Parrigin officiating. Burial was in Crossville City Cemetery.
Mr. Wright was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Clinton, IL, the son of Richard J. Wright and Grace Landacre Wright.
He was a graduate of East High School and State Technical Institute in Memphis. While serving in the United States Air Force, he was named Airman of the Year. He was also a reservist in the Military Police Unit at the Memphis Area Defense Depot. He was a data communications coordinator for Methodist Health Systems in Memphis for over 29 years before retiring in 1998.
Mr. Wright was a lifetime member and past president of the Raleigh Optimist Club and a member of the Moose Lodge, both in Memphis. He was also a member of the Crossville Model Railroad Club and a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; half brothers, Ernie Wright of Destrehan, LA and Warren Wright of Memphis; special uncle, Kay Wright of Decatur, IL; special nephew and chess partner, Austin Akers of Crossville; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family has respectfully asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Crossville, or to the American Heart Association.
