Eddie D. Brandon

June 21, 1942 — Aug. 11, 2007

Eddie Dean Brandon, 65, of Rockwood, TN passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, at Knoxville's UT Medical Center following complications due to a car accident.

Eddie was born on Father's Day, June 21, 1942, to Joe E. and Helen D. Brandon of Rockwood.

He attended Rockwood High School and graduated from Washington College Academy. He was a local business owner who saw successes in many different fields. He owned and operated Crossville Flooring Center in the 1980s and then in the 1990s he established Affordable Heating & Air and later Better Built Homes, both in Rockwood. Eddie retired several years ago and more than anything he enjoyed spending time with his precious granddaughters Tori, Emily and Mattie Belle. His generous, loving heart and unforgettable sense of humor live on in everyone he touched.

Eddie is preceded in death by his father, Joe Edward Brandon (1976) and son Robert Evan Brandon (1999). He is survived by his mother, Helen Howard, and stepfather, Samuel Howard of Rockwood; son Josh Brandon and daughter-in-law Mika Brandon of Crossville; six grandchildren, Catriona Brandon of Nashville, Kelli and Zachary Brandon of Jamestown, Tori and Emily Smith and Mattie Belle Brandon of Crossville.

The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Harriman's First Christian Church. A Celebration Of Life will follow and the family asks that all friends and family come prepared to share stories and celebrate the life he led.

Danny J. Davis

Dec. 20, 1965 — Aug. 1, 2007

Danny Jessie Davis, 41, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 1, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 5 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Hite officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Little Church Cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born Dec. 20, 1965, in Baltimore, MD, the son of Danny Lee and Donna Roberts Davis.

He was an electrician with ADT and was employed at Cherokee Lodge where he worked as a DJ and provided tech support. He was also a licensed bounty hunter and had spent time as a minister. He was a member of the National Guard and the VFW Post. He liked to collect movies and was an excellent cook, with breakfast being his specialty.

Survivors include his wife, Caroline Davis of Crossville; parents, Danny L. and Donna Davis; grandmother, Sally Fann, all of Crossville; sisters, Kathleen Murphy of Crossville and Brandy Davis of Johnson City; stepdaughters, Phylis Bowen of Baltimore, Michelle Willis of Garner, NC and Veronica Whatley, also of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nephew, Alexander Murphy of Crossville.

Louise T. Dyer

Aug. 15, 2007

Louise Thompson Dyer, 90, of Loudon, passed away Aug. 15, 2007, at Wharton Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 17 at Loudon Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Russell officiating. Graveside services were conducted Aug. 18 at Steekee Cemetery.

Mrs. Dyer is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Vicki Dyer, Bob and Judy McCullough of Michigan and Ernie and Melissa McCullough of Pleasant Hill; sisters, Frances Shubert of Loudon, Ruth Snider of Pontiac, MI and Edith Brown of Knoxville; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Tony, Dewayne and William Dyer; parents, William "Cart" and Elizabeth Akins Thompson; brothers, Blaine, Robert and Charles; and sisters, Trula Hooker and Ailene Rott.

Sarah E. Hall

Oct. 28, 1939 — July 28, 2007

Sarah Elizabeth Hall, 67, of Crossville, passed away July 28, 2007. Memorial services were held Aug. 1 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Keith Zempel officiating.

Mrs. Hall was born Oct. 28, 1939, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Willard and Lucille Decker Shuburg.

She loved to work on her farm but spent most of her time taking care of the cook shack at Meadow Creek Motorcross. She enjoyed flower gardening and liked to fish. She was a unique person who just enjoyed nature and all the beauty it had to offer. Her family was the most important part of her life and she loved them all so very much. She was also a member of Pomona United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Sam Hall of Crossville; sons and daughter-in-law, Everett Grant II, Mark and Sharon Grant and Matthew Grant, all of Crossville; brother, Bobby Shuburg of Chicago, IL; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Darrell Shuburg.

Jerry K. Johnson

March 14, 1940 — Aug. 16, 2007

Jerry Kenneth "Kenny" Johnson passed away Aug. 16, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 17 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Wayne Matthews officiating. Interment was in Hedgecoth Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born March 14, 1940, the oldest son of Baston "Bass" and Myrtle (Ray) Johnson of Crossville.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Jenny Johnson, Tony and Shirley Johnson, Donnie and Mary Johnson and Jack and Cindie Johnson, all of Crossville, and Ronnie Johnson of Cookeville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and David Moss of Cookeville and Pam and Tony Morris of Crossville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were Ted, Tony and Donnie Johnson, Patricia Moss and Pam Norris.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Cumberland County.

Mary B. Nay

July 22, 2007

Mary B. Nay, 92, of Columbus, OH, formerly of Fairfield Glade, passed away July 22, 2007. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at the New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12550 Brooks School Road, Fishers, IN 46037, with the Rev. Dr. Steve J. Ebling officiating. Private family burial will be observed in Crossville.

Born near Sheridan, IN, to the late Ralph S. and Mary Elsie (Goff) Baker, Mrs. Nay attended Sheridan High School. She married Morris D. Nay on Dec. 5, 1931. Morris passed away in 1978.

Mrs. Nay was a member of Lebanon Chapter #23 OES where she previously served as past Worthy Matron. She was an intensely creative person, as well as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. For many years, she worked tirelessly to create handmade outfits for her grandchildren. Her handiwork continues to be cherished. She was also a generous teacher and she spent hours passing along the joy and reward of her talents. In her later years as a great-grandmother of a diabetic, Mrs. Nay added a new focus to her creative efforts. She joined with her son Don's family in raising awareness and funds to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes.

Survivors include her son and daughters-in-law, Donald A. and Carol L. Nay of Powell, OH; daughter-in-law, Kay C. Nay of Fishers, IN; grandchildren, Deborah (Brian) Bahnsen of Worthington, OH, Tamara (Kent) Jaquith of Zanesville, OH, Juliann (William) Sheley of Dublin, OH, Mary (Scott) Cooper of Upper Arlington, OH, Susan (Brent) Baker of Upper Arlington, OH, John Scott (Laura) Nay Jr., Marcy (Tom) Grinslade and Leslie (Steve) Buckner, all of Fishers, IN; 21 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John S. Nay who passed away in 2000, and by her sister, Hilda B. Fancher.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider memorial contributions to The American Heart Association of Indiana or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mid-Ohio Chapter, 950 Michigan Ave., Columbus, OH 43215 in her memory.

Maggie Woody

Maggie Woody, 87, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 12, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 14 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Tim Blaylock officiating. Special music was provided by Anna Blaylock and Alisha Lawson. Burial was in Woody Cemetery.

Mrs. Woody was born Sept. 6, 1919, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Campbell Washington and Dora Lou Sevier Copeland.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Sparta Drive Church of God. She liked to camp and fish. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and gardening. She also liked to feed the birds and the squirrels. She loved to spend time with her friends. The joy of her life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the time she spent with them.

Survivors include her children, Raymond Woody of Sparta, Joseph L. Woody Sr. and wife Barbara, Jimmy Wayne Woody and wife Kem and Wanda Huff and husband James, all of Crossville; grandchildren, Joe Woody Jr. and wife Joan, Randy Woody and wife Chelsey, Kevin Woody Sr., Jeff Woody and wife Misty and Tony Woody, all of Crossville, Melissa Dotson and husband Gary of Franklin and Karen Huff of Louisville, KY; great-grandchildren, Hayden Woody, Emma Woody, Rylan Woody, Christopher Woody, Kevin Woody Jr., Keely Woody, Alyssa Woody, Allen Woody, Tucker Woody, Jacob Dotson and Matthew Dotson; sisters-in-law, Leva Copeland and Mary McCloud of Crossville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rye Woody; son, Oliver Kiah Woody; brothers, Archie Copeland, John Henry Copeland, Oliver Hack Copeland, Oral H. Copeland, Stoy L. Copeland and Othar S. Copeland; and sisters, Josie Demonbreun, Myrtle Conley, Margie Miller, Lura Buckner, Mamie Conley and Georgia Rector.
