Clinton Barker

May 16, 1922 — Aug. 15, 2007

Clinton Barker, 85, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 15, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 18. He was given a very moving memorial service where he was described as "a household name," "one-of-a-kind" and "you can't hear the name 'Clint Barker' without it putting a smile on your face." He was honored with a full military ceremony by the Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers for the service were Dayton Tim Barker, Scott Elmore, Luke Barker, Joey Barker, Jeff Harris, Jesse Bow, Jim Barker and Terry Barker. Ben Barker served as an honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Barker was born May 16, 1922, a native of Crawford, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, B. Lee and Sarah England Barker; sister, Leva Smith; and brothers, Dayton, Link, J.B. and three infant brothers. He was married to Eva Beatrice (Bea) Matheney of Monterey on April 18, 1942. They were happily married for over 61 years until her passing on March 16, 2003.

He is survived by his sons, Richard Allen (Rick) Barker and wife Diane of Cookeville, Danny Rae Barker of Crossville and Davey Clinton Barker of Atlanta. He was known affectionately as "Pawpaw" by his six grandchildren, Jim Barker of Nashville, Adam Barker of Amarillo, TX, Allison Barker of Crossville, Ben Barker of Crossville, Audra Barker-Tirjan of Lafayette, TN and Terry Barker of Cookeville; and his great-grandchildren, Kami Barker of Jacksonville, FL, Taylor Barker of Crossville and Cole and Chase Barker of Nashville. As a resident of Crossville for over 60 years, Mr. Barker was very well known in the community. He was a proud Marine who served in World War II, a lifelong Mason for over 50 years and a member of the First Baptist Church. Before retiring in 1997, he had developed a reputation over the years as one of the very best in the automotive community, which resulted in customers traveling from out of state to seek his expertise. But his greatest gift to his family and friends was his witness of a Christian life and his belief in the strength of family. His legacy will live on as the wonderful husband and father that he was and the smiles and laughter that he always brought to the people in his life.
