Bruce M. Binder

April 4, 1939 — Aug. 19, 2007

Bruce Martin Binder, 68, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 19, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 23 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Kerley officiating.

Mr. Binder was born April 4, 1939, in Joliet, IL, the son of Otto Michael Binder and Alneda Becktel Binder.

He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Before retiring, he was a millwright for the Caterpillar Tractor Company and had also served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia McCullough Binder of Crossville; sons, Terry Binder of Joliet, IL and Rusty Binder of Diamond, IL; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Dave Lawson of Crossville; grandchildren, Becky, Kacey, Samuel, Jason, Koreena, Samantha, Aaron, Alexandria and Brian; and sister, Gail Pisha of Joliet, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Cornerstone Church building fund.

Conner L. Brooker

April 19, 1917 — Aug. 15, 2007

Conner Lee Brooker, 90, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 15, 2007. A memorial service was held Aug. 18 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lampman officiating.

Mr. Brooker was born April 19, 1917, in Folkston, GA, the son of the late Charles and Ira Brooker.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Lillian Brooker; son, Lee Brooker of Liberty; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Brooker and Farrell Odom of Crossville; grandchildren, Andy and Julie Bass of Knoxville, Jennifer and Lewis Wheeler of Cookeville, and Johnny Bass of Crossville; and great-grandchildren, Nic and Jake Bass and Savana and Lillian Wheeler.

Mildred M. Cannaday

Aug. 26, 1923 — Aug. 22, 2007

Mildred Mae Cannaday, 83, known to family and friends as "Mickey," passed away Aug. 22, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 27 at Calvary Chapel, Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.

Mrs. Cannaday suffered no serious illness and her passing came as a surprise. Mercifully, she passed away in her sleep in her own bed.

She was born Aug. 26, 1923. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1942 and soon after married George Richard Cannaday. She was a member of the Christian Science Church of Irvington, and for 20 years was the owner of Xact Office Services. She also served as president/secretary for the Association of Business Women in Indianapolis. In 1975, Mickey and George moved to Crossville and there, Mickey was involved in various positions. She opened the Secretarial Service for Young Women Searching for Identity and was an officer of Domestic Violence of Crossville. In addition, she opened the Family Mission of Tennessee in Fentress County, through the state's governor's request.

She was very active in helping local women who suffered from domestic violence and was a firm believer in social activism. She served as the president of Democratic Women of Tennessee, and remained a staunch Democrat to the end of her life. She was an active resident of Lake Tansi Village of Crossville. After her husband George died in 2006, Mickey moved back to Indianapolis, IN.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona A. and John Corey, Paula J. and James Nance and Stephanie S. Staples and companion William Campbell; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She maintained her sense of humor and a sharp intellect to the end. She is very much loved and will be missed.

Oliver Flowers

Feb. 26, 1930 — Aug. 22, 2007

Oliver Flowers, 77, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 22, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 25 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with Bro. Terry Bond, Steve Watts and Tim Watts officiating. Special singing was provided by the Hwy. 127 Church of Christ. Burial was in Nelson Cemetery in Overton County.

Mr. Flowers was born Feb. 26, 1930, the son of Marshall and Pearl Conatser Flowers.

He was a member of the Hwy. 127 Church of Christ. Before retiring, he was a butcher and had also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Francis Flowers; and sisters, Lillie Kennedy of Livingston, Mazell Melton of Monroe, TN, Junice Copeland of Huntsville, AL, Oma Jean Bowman of Huntsville, AL, Valeria Combs of Crossville, IL and Hazel Flippen of Las Vegas, NV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James R. Flowers; and sisters, Opal Franklin, Nellie Daniels and Avis Knight.

Pallbearers were Mark Watts, David Watts, Cricket Bryson, Leon Brown, Tim Kerley and Marty Watts.

Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Brown, Jeffery Bond, Jacob Bond, Kendall Watts, Gordon Watts, Cameron Watts, Levi Reed, Clint Reed, Dakota Watts, Josh Watts, Jonathan Bryson, Chip Bryson, Ethan Jones, Eston Jones, Laramie Watts, Garitt Reed and Dylan Watts.

Oliver H. Hall

Sept. 16, 1921 — Aug. 20, 2007

Oliver Harrison Hall, 85, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 20, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 22 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Smathers and the Rev. Pete Ullmann officiating. Graveside committal services were held Aug. 23 at Big Lick Cemetery. Masonic and military honors were given.

Mr. Hall was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Cumberland County, the son of Albert and Verdie Croft Hall.

He was retired from the Crossville Housing Authority as a maintenance supervisor and was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Big Lick. He was also retired from the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and spent 30 years in the National Guard. He also belonged to many clubs and organizations, some of which were Cumberland County Farm Bureau, charter member of VFW Post 5025, 50-year member of the Crossville Masonic Lodge 483, NAWS, Chattanooga Scottish Rite Club and the Crossville Scottish Rite Club. Hunting was one of his favorite pastimes.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Agnes Hall of Crossville; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Charlie Sutton of Crossville; sisters and brother-in-law, Ella and Bud Wilson and Christine Thompson, all of Crossville; grandchildren, Chad Lack, Cara and John Sutton, and Chelsea and Rodney Hall; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Hall; brothers, Roy Hall, Ralph Hall and Ernest Hall; and sister, Gladys Coxen.

Pallbearers were Al Wilson, Clay Wilson, Jim Hall, Bill Thompson, Jeff Hall and Joel Hall.

Kenneth E. Holloway

June 26, 1958 — Aug. 21, 2007

Kenneth Eugene Holloway, 49, of Crab Orchard, passed away Aug. 21, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 24 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Danny Smith officiating. Interment was in Haley's Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Holloway was born June 26, 1958, in Rockwood, the son of Willard Ballard and Helen Eugenia (Sturges) Holloway.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Pamela Ann Chaffin Holloway of Crab Orchard; grandmother, Ida Lee Holloway of Crab Orchard; and aunts and uncles, Aileen Sherrill of Crab Orchard, Bill and Margie Day of Crab Orchard, Don and Betty Holloway of Cookeville and Lynn and Joanne Holloway of Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Barbara A. Pigg

Barbara Ann Pigg, 60, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 20, 2007. Funeral services were held Aug. 24 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with James Allen officiating.

Mrs. Pigg was born Jan. 6, 1947, in Dayton, OH.

Survivors include her mother, Francis Baker of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Deborah Pigg and Rebecca (Scott) DeBoard of Crossville; daughters' father and his wife, Lewis and Judy Pigg of Crossville; grandchildren, Kristen, Jennifer, Michael and Patrick, all of Crossville; brothers, Virgil Baker of Pocola, OK, Floyd Baker of Kettering, OH and Michael Baker of Ohio; sister, Patricia McDaniel of San Antonio, TX; and numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Baker, who resided in Englewood, OH.

Harold R. Thomas

Jan. 28, 1919 — Aug. 24, 2007

Harold Ray Thomas, 88, of Crossville, passed away Aug. 24, 2007. Memorial services will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta. Burial will follow in a private family cemetery in White County.

Mr. Thomas was born Jan. 28, 1919, in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late James Garfield Thomas and Genevieve Gerbig Thomas.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Elder of Sparta; son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Julieta Thomas of Tampa, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Nicholas Sirovica of Cleveland, OH; granddaughters, Kristin Davis and Katy Kuhn of Tampa, FL and Lara Elder of Sparta; grandsons, Justin Elder of Cleveland, OH, Kurt Thomas and Keith Thomas of Tampa, FL; and great-granddaughter, Jaedyn Ryleigh Davis of Tampa, FL.

Jerry N. Treadway

Jan. 7, 1930 — Aug. 22, 2007

Jerry Norman Treadway was not a great man by the world's standards. He never had many possessions; he didn't want to be owned by them. He never finished school but was self-taught and devoted to the pursuit of knowledge. Nature was his second home and he so enjoyed sharing it with those he loved. The greatness of his life was the impact he made on his family and friends, which will go on for generations to come. They were proud to call you Daddy, Grandpa and friend. He will truly be missed.

He was a craftsman and had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Debbie Treadway, Luther and Heather Treadway, Joshua Treadway and Anita Carson; daughters, Sherry Selby, Mary Treadway, Bobbi Sue Perrine and Lisa Hancher; grandchildren, Joshua Treadway, Justin Treadway, Cody Treadway, Dalton Selby, Nikki Sinn, Jessie Selby, Makaila Treadway, Alex Hamilton, Amy Hancher, Ashley Carson, Austin Hamilton, Blaine Selby, Chase Selby, Heather Reed and Jessica Forsyth; great-grandchildren, Autumn Reed and Milaena Sinn; brother, Bill Treadway; and companion, Juanita England Schock.

Patricia L. Troupe

Patricia Liddle Troupe, 68, of Fairfield Glade, passed away Aug. 25, 2007. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, August 28, at Victory Baptist Church, 1777 Tate Lane, Mt. Juliet, TN with Caryl Strange officiating. Visitation with the family will be two hours prior to the service.

She was the daughter of the late Howard and Kathyrne Douglas Hearne.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Troupe of Fairfield Glade; daughter, Zana (Dennis) Walker of Mt. Juliet; son, Tommy (Jodee) Liddle of Kentucky; stepdaughter, Cindy Romer of Mt. Juliet; stepson, Mike Troupe of Nashville; sisters, Linda (Carlos) Bickford of Murfreesboro and Nancy (J.D.) Dias of Gallatin; brother, Vic (Pam) Hearne of Nashville; grandchildren, Amanda (Tony) Schroder and Shane Walker, Gregg and Calandra Liddle and their mother, Sonya Liddle; step-grandchildren, Jason Romer, Madison Romer and Brandon Dodson; step-great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Romer; and her cat, Kricket.
