Roy A. Sedrel

CROSSVILLE — Nov. 15, 1933 — Jan. 22, 2013

Roy Alvin Sedrel, of Crossville, passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 79 on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

Roy was born in Des Moines, IA, to parents Alvin C. Benson and Dorothy Faye Klein in 1933. He graduated from Des Moines High School, served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War, earned a B.A. in accounting at AIB, Des Moines, IA, and a master's degree in business administration from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL.

Roy dedicated his life in service to his family and community and retired from Illinois School District #15 as deputy superintendent of business administration. During his career he was the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding contributions to the community and served as president of the Illinois Association of School Business Officials.

He embraced life with enthusiasm and enjoyed many different pursuits including woodworking, sailing, camping and RC airplane modeling.

Roy's life was a true demonstration of the principles of integrity, honor and devotion to family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sedrel, and his daughter, Kathie Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, Lynnea Donai, and his son, Steven Sedrel.

Roy's life will forever be a blessing upon all of those he touched during his journey through this world. May his family and friends find peace and comfort in their loving remembrances of him.

Roy and Carolyn were active and committed members of the First United Methodist Church of Crossville, TN. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The family requests that any donations in his memory be made to either the Cumberland County Chapter of Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc. or Hospice of Cumberland County.

"Divine Father-Mother God, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, in our most profound gratitude and awe we commit our father, Roy Alvin Sedrel, unto Your perfect love. May Thy tender mercies, eternal and everlasting, be granted unto Roy as his spirit is reunited with Thee in Thy radiant, healing light. Amen."

Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
