Alma Lee Burgess, 69, of Cookeville, formerly of Crossville, passed away Nov. 24, 2012. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 28, from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Akins Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the funeral home. Bro. Mike Kerley will officiate, with special music by Charles Scarbrough.
Mrs. Burgess was born April 27, 1943, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Jesse Clay and Flora Elene Roberts Mooneyham.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was currently residing at Cedar Hills Senior Living in Cookeville.
Survivors include her son, Darrell LaVaughn Burgess and wife, Darla Kay, of Crossville; daughters, Kimberly Vanessa Sullivan and Karen Yvonne Cagle and fiancé, Steve Kerley, all of Crossville; brothers, Phillip Mooneyham and wife, Valerie, of McMinnville, and Wendell Mooneyham and wife, Puddin, of Cookeville; sisters, Wanda Phifer of Cookeville, Lucille Boyd of McMinnville, Jessie Rambo and husband, Johnny, of McMinnville, and Cynthia Cantrell and husband, Doug, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Tyler Holderman, Adam Wade Burgess, Brandi Cagle, Jonathan Burgess, Jared Burgess, Jacob Burgess and Joshua Dewey; great-grandson, Zane Cagle; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her family would also like to give special acknowledgement to her caregivers, Jenene Jones, Puddin Mooneyham and Kermit Morgan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Vaughn Burgess; sister, Minnie Helen Brock; and brothers, Ted Wilburn Mooneyham and Clayton Lewis Mooneyham.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Burgess, Adam Burgess, Steve Kerley, Kermit Morgan, Wendell Mooneyham, Cecil Burgess, Doug Cantrell and Junior Jones. Joshua Dewey will serve as honorary pallbearer.
