Mary Pheribol Hutcheson Hughes, 90, of Huntsville, AL, formerly of Crossville, passed away June 12, 2012, at South Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center in Owens Cross Roads, AL, near Huntsville. Funeral services were held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on June 16, 2012. Burial followed at Spencer City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes was born on May 18, 1922, in Pikeville, the daughter of the late Raleigh Darius and Verna (Blevins) Hutcheson. A member of the Church of Christ, Mrs. Hughes married on March 25, 1940. Post WWII, she and her husband relocated to Dayton, OH, for factory employment. They returned in 1949 to attend Tennessee Technological University and graduated in 1953. She served as an educator in the Cumberland County School System in Crossville until her retirement in 1984. She resided in the Homestead area of Cumberland County from 1953 until 2011.
Survivors include her husband, Noah Hughes of Huntsville, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Peter Liever of Huntsville, AL; brother, William Benton Hutcheson of Sparta; sisters, Sammie Baker (Charles) of Spencer, TN, Bonnie George (Robert) of Manchester and Donna Cardwell of Knoxville; and granddaughters, Robin Marissa Liever and Alexandra Cherise Liever of Huntsville, AL.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Hutcheson, and infant sister, Verna Iona Hutcheson.
Larry McDuffee presided over the funeral service, and vocal music was provided by members of the Crossville Church of Christ. Pallbearers were Peter Liever, Ted Hutcheson, Michael Baker, Robert and Steve George, and Jim Hughes.
