William Warren Roper, 60, passed away June 15, 2008, in Georgetown, MS. Funeral services were held June 19 at Stringer Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, MS. Burial followed in Hazlehurst City Cemetery.
Mr. Roper was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Jackson, MS, the son of Charles A. Roper Jr. and Mable Traweek Roper of Hazlehurst, MS.
A native of Copiah County, he was a graduate of Hazlehurst High School and Copiah Lincoln Community College. He served in the United States Navy from 1968-1972.
He was employed for a number of years with Zapata Oil Company and he owned and operated Monkeys Tavern in Hazlehurst.
Survivors include his children, Barbara Ann Roper of Hazlehurst, MS and William Patrick Roper (Jeri) of Crossville; brother, Charles A. Roper III (Darlene) of Silverhill, AL; sister, Ann Roper of Hazlehurst, MS; niece, Liane R. Baxter of Silverhill, AL; nephews, William Frank Roper (Amy) and Charles T. Roper (Kari) of Brawley, CA; seven great-nieces; four great-nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Roper Sr. of Hazlehurst, MS, and Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Traweek of Baton Rouge, LA.
Memorials may be made to Hazlehurst United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
Stringer Funeral Home of Hazlehurst, MS, was in charge of the arrangements.

Aileen Pridgen Patience, 92, of Crossville, passed away April 29, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roland Smith officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, at a later date.

This past Saturday, Cumberland County lost one of its most beloved figures when Mr. Claude Little passed away at Erlanger Hospital following a massive stroke incurred Wednesday, April 21. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 4, at Crossville First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Bilbrey Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
