Houston W. Proffitt

Houston Walter Proffitt, 79, of the Daysville community of Rockwood, passed away Aug. 30, 2008. Graveside services and interment were held Aug. 31 in the Daysville Cemetery in Cumberland County, with the Rev. Hascue Carter officiating. Full military honors were given by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.
Mr. Proffitt was born Aug. 10, 1929, in the Waldensia community of Cumberland County, the son of Walter and Elcy Proffitt.
He was a retired unit operator with Tennessee Valley Authority with 27 years of service. He was a member of the Daysville Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #50 in Rockwood. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his siblings and their spouses, Esther and Noble Brown of Rockwood, Milburn and Kay Proffitt of Rockwood, Mary P. and Homer Smith of Rockwood and Jane and John Carson of Crossville; several nieces, a nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother and sister, Billie Lou and John Louie; and sister, Patricia Joan Proffitt.
