PHOTO GALLERY: 2009 Stone Memorial High School pageants

The winners of the Stone Memorial High School pageants sponsored by the class of 2011 were recently announced. In the Miss Tiny Tot division, Gracie Custhaw of Homestead Elementary was crowned the overall winner. Runners-up, from first to fourth, were Zaidea Bohannon, Homestead Elementary; Ashlyn Sherrill, North Cumberland Elementary; Caytie Thomas, Homestead Elementary; and Whitney Profitt, Homestead Elementary.



Ali Crain of Homestead Elementary was crowned the Wee Miss Panther Princess. Runners-up were Kealey Lowe, North Cumberland Elementary, first; Madison Riggs, North Cumberland Elementary, second; Adrianna Barnett, Homestead Elementary, third; and Katie Lajeunesse, Stone Elementary, fourth.



Receiving the Junior Miss Panther Princess title was Telsa Sherrill of North Cumberland Elementary. Runners-up, from first to fourth, were Kalei Hollingsworth, Stone Elementary; Georgie White, Homestead Elementary; Savannah Newman, Stone Elementary; and Victoria Hayes, North Cumberland Elementary.



Torey LaMontague was named the 2009 Panther Princess. Kayla Walker was first runner-up and received the Miss Congeniality title. The second runner-up was Leslie Cottrell.



Lacy Cottrell was crowned this year's SMHS Panther Queen. First runner-up in this division was Allie Brewer. Second runner-up, Heather Breeden, was named Miss Congeniality.

  • homestead1 PHOTO GALLERY: Homestead community celebrates 75-year anniversary Actress Patty Payne played the part of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt for a reenactment of the speech Roosevelt made in the community. Payne has played the part of Mrs. Roosevelt many times in the Homesteads Album, an original production of the Cumberland County Playhouse, and her performance was one of the highlights of the Homestead's 75th anniversary celebration.

  • vet9 PHOTO GALLERY: A day of rolling Thunder honors all veterans I had the pleasure of going on the Veterans Thunder Motorcycle Run last Saturday. It was an amazing ride to South Pittsburg, TN where the Vietnam Veterans of Cumberland County were honored with a proclamation and the key to the city. The ride honored all veterans. The event had live music, food and a brief ceremony. It was a great experience.

The event featured Native American dancing, drumming and storytelling. It is held annually in June.
